1: Research
Task - Research the current needs of musicians.
Goals - Identify areas in which current keyboard offerings are lacking.
Specification - The proposed design should seek to resolve the top concerns found in this research.
2: Design (Integration)
Task - Design the piano so that it can integrate with a laptop.
Goals - The piano should be able to just be plugged in and integrate with software on the user's computer.
Specification - The proposed design must be able to pull power from and transmit audio data directly to into a digital audio workstation on the user's laptop via a single USB connection.
3: Design (Size)
Task - Design the piano such that size is minimized.
Goals - Users should be able to easily transport the piano as they go about their day, ideally fitting inside a backpack.
Specification - The piano should not exceed 17x12x3 in.
4: Design (Quality)
Task - Design the piano such that quality is maximized.
Goals - The piano should be sufficient for the daily use of music students and armature musicians.
Specification - At least 80% of prototype testers surveyed should feel that the device is sufficient for their needs.
5: Design (Price)
Task - Design the piano such that price is minimized.
Goals - The piano should be affordable to the average student or young person.
Specification - The piano should cost no more than $100.
Eliminated Paths
The specific elements of design optimized and their order should be dependent on the issues identified in the research task.
