Design Tasks
Create a database to reference on how to optimally use resources.
How much water/energy needed for jeans, whites, delicates, etc.
Estimated time based on material and weight
Find hardware components (or enclosure) that fit in with the design
Able to withstand intense spinning
Water resistant/proof
Able to fit and install easily in most laundry systems
General Design Goals
Create a weight sensor that fits into most laundry systems and can withstand the environments inside. (Water resistant, stays in place when spinning, etc.)
Design a system that optimizes the laundry system's energy usage based on user input
Have an output display for various messages
Estimated time for completion
Warning if load is too heavy
Warning if the sensor detects an error within itself
Identify the constraints associated with each design goals
How accessible it is to the common person in terms of price and installation
How much weight can the sensor/system withstand
Simplicity in comparison to a normal washing machine in terms of usage
Specific Design Goals
Different machines have different capacities
Machine operation under power and water usage constraints
Elimination Path
Developing a system that could determine the materials of the items in a laundry load was eliminated in order to focus on potential solutions that would simply have the user input the materials of items they placed into the washer to reduce the number of sensors needed.
