Follow-ME Robot
Needs:
There is no current cost-effective solution to develop and create self-autonomous robots that are equipped with object detection software/hardware, which could be used in household and/or military affairs.
Objective:
Design a robot that implements object detection A.I. to pick up various objects. The goal of this project is to learn how to implement various libraries such as OpenCV and TensorFlow in conjunction with path-finding algorithms.
Background:
Object detection and A.I.-supported robots have had several instrumental roles in many different aspects of society, reaching into areas such as self-driving vehicles, facial recognition security, and sports analytics just to name a few. Unfortunately, due to the complexity of the devices needed for this type of robot and the software needed to run it, no one has been able to come up with a cost-effective solution that implements all of these features.
Part's List:
Hardware: Jetson Board, Raspberry Pi, Arduino, Lidar Sensor, Stereographic Camera.
Software: TensorFlow Keras, OpenCV, Real-Time Operating System (RTOS), Python, Visual Studio Code, Arduino IDE.
Frame: Metal Standoffs, 3d-Printed Components, M4 and M3 nuts and bolts, plastic platform.
Methodology:
To program our robot with object detection A.I., work will be divided between different members of the group. Clearly stated, reasonable goals will be implemented to structure and navigate our project's completion. Previously designed robots will be reimplemented using new object detection algorithms and databases to fulfill our goals.
Expected Results:
Over the remaining part of the semester, we hope as a group to be able to develop this object detection focused robot to a point where it can detect simple objects, such as water bottles or pens, and physically be able to move toward these objects and interact with them. To interact with these targeted objects, we expect to develop some type of pully or mechanical arm system to most likely pick up and retrieve these objects.
Cost:
Our expected cost for this project is around $800. However since many of the materials are already available to us through various means, the total cost of this project will be re-evaluated at a later point, adjusting the accurate final cost of this project. We expect to re-estimate the cost of this project once we have a full product list of all our needed materials and we assume this will be completed by the beginning of March.
