• Aircraft Carried: 36 x Grumman F4F Wildcat fighter plane, 36 x Douglas SBD-3 Dauntless dive bomber, and 18 x Grumman TPF Avenger torpedo bomber

• Served in War of the Pacific; sunk the HIJMS Zuikaku; helped sink HIJMS's Zuiho, Musashi, and Chitose; refitted 1969 and sent to the National Defence Reserve Fleet; Decommissioned 8 November 1991

• Current Status: Museum Ship at the USS Lexington Museum-on-the-bay in Corpus Christi, TX
