Tensie Whelan, Founder & Director, NYU Stern Center for Sustainable Business

Tensie Whelan, Clinical Professor for Business and Society, is the founder and Director of NYU Stern School of Business’s Center for Sustainable Business, where she brings 25 years of experience working on sustainability issues. As President of the Rainforest Alliance, she built the organization from a $4.5 million to $50 million budget, transforming the engagement of business with sustainability, recruiting 5,000 companies in more than 60 countries. Her previous work included serving as Executive Director of the New York League of Conservation Voters, Vice President of the National Audubon Society, and Managing Editor of Ambio, a journal of the Swedish Academy of Sciences. She has served on numerous nonprofit boards and corporate advisory boards for companies such as Unilever and Nespresso and currently serves on the advisory boards of ALO Advisors, Buzz on Earth, Giant Ventures, and Inherent Group. She was most recently appointed to the board of InvestIndustrial SPAC, and is an Advisor to the Future Economy Project for Harvard Business Review and is a member of the “Exploring the Future of Sustainable Production and Consumption” Working Group of the Council on Competitiveness. Tensie was awarded the Stern Faculty Excellence Award in 2020.

Jorge Fontanez, CEO, B Lab U.S. & Canada

Jorge Fontanez is CEO of B Lab U.S. & Canada, part of a global network focused on realizing stakeholder capitalism and whose global mission is to create an inclusive, equitable, and regenerative future benefitting all people and the planet. Jorge's career has been in pursuit of achieving racial equity through economic equity, influenced by the belief that business can be a force for good. Jorge's perspective on business comes from having in-depth experience leading marketing and brand strategy for iconic brands across a variety of sectors including Consumer Packaged Goods, Mining and Minerals, Automotive and Financial Services. In 2015 he founded Marca Studio, an independent strategic marketing consultancy serving entrepreneur founders of color in their early-stage ventures, as well as purpose-driven brands, nonprofits, and foundations. Jorge designed a course on Stakeholders & Marketing and lectures at the Bard MBA in Sustainability Program. He also serves as an advisor to the NYU Center for Sustainable Business and Pacific Community Ventures, and since 2014 he has been a First Mover Fellow of the Aspen Institute Business & Society Program.

Esi Seng, General Manager, Tom's of Maine

Esi Seng is a proven, inspirational global leader with more than two decades of accelerating growth and building high-performing CPG businesses and teams across North America, Europe, Asia and Latin America. She is a results-driven General Manager with proven success across all business strategy and operations including: product development, consumer marketing, insights, P&L, and supply chain, including manufacturing. Esi has a track record for cultivating a growth culture with focus on world-class brand building campaigns, breakthrough innovation, commercial excellence and empowering teams to realize their full potential. A strategist recognized for her progressive business acumen, she has led digital transformation strategies across multiple organizations, built ecommerce teams from the ground up, and launched DTC business models.


Currently, Esi serves as General Manager, Tom's of Maine overseeing all strategic and commercial activities for this leading manufacturer of natural personal care products. Headquartered in Kennebunk, Tom’s of Maine is a Certified B Corporation with a long-standing commitment to social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability as part of the brand’s mission to be a force for good. Esi is also a driver in instilling the company’s true commitment to do good for people and the planet. In 2020, Tom’s of Maine manufactured the first-of-its-kind recyclable tube toothpaste, which was recognized as one of The Best Inventions of 2020 by TIME Magazine and recently launched a 100% plastic free deodorant line. The Tom’s of Maine plant is a certified Energy Star Challenge for Industry.


Prior to Tom’s of Maine, Esi was the Head of Marketing of Colgate Brazil, one of the largest toothpaste markets in the world. In this role, she helped the company achieve record market share in Toothpaste and Mouthwash. Additionally, she helped further fortify Colgate brand leadership with the introduction of Colgate Naturals and paved the entry into new categories with the launch of Protex Facial and Protex Baby. Expanding brand and category footprint has been Esi’s hallmark at Colgate-Palmolive. Under her leadership, Colgate became the #1 Toothbrush brand in the U.S. in 2014 and later in Malaysia, where she served as Marketing Director for Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia. As European Division Director, she led the expansion of the Sanex brand in six countries.

Before joining Colgate in 2007, Esi held marketing and brand management positions at companies including L'Oréal and Nickelodeon. Esi earned an M.B.A. from New York University’s Stern School of Business, participated in The Tuck School of Business’ Global Leadership Program at Dartmouth and received her Bachelor’s Degree from Boston University. She was named one of Brand Innovators 40 under 40.

Craig Wilson, Managing Director, NYU Tandon Future Labs

Craig's career exists at the intersection of technology and entrepreneurship. He has done both of the operating and investing sides of the table. Currently, he is the Managing Director of the NYU Tandon Future Labs and the Head of the Climate Collective. Previously, he has worked with Collaborative Fund and Founder Collective on the investing side, and co-founded The Crop Project, a regenerative agriculture processing company. He has an MBA from NYU-Stern and a BA from Middlebury College.

Pat Sapinsley, Managing Director, Cleantech Initiatives, Urban Future Lab / ACRE

A LEED AP architect, Pat holds a Master’s in Architecture from the Harvard Graduate School of Design and has served on their Alumni Council. She is past Co-Chair of the Committee on the Environment of the New York Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, a member of the Board of Building Energy Exchange, a frequent lecturer and industry panelist, and an active member of the U.S. Green Building Council and Urban Green. Prior to joining UFL/ACRE, Pat worked in venture capital at Good Energies and consulted with startups in the building energy efficiency space. She was CEO of Watt Not, an LED lighting consultancy, and Build Efficiently, LLC. As a Visiting Scholar at Harvard’s Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering, she assisted in translating biologically-inspired technologies into commercial products. She brings 15+ years of experience in the industry, connecting startups to sources of funding, customers, and business mentors.

Sander Cohan, Head of US Innovation, National Grid Partners

Sander has more than 18 years of experience identifying growth opportunities and driving new strategies within international energy and industrial companies, connecting emerging technology with commercial markets. He has served as chief strategist, advocate and project director for technology development projects in diverse areas such as next-generation solar and wind, long-duration energy storage, robotics, data analytics, geothermal energy, hybrid renewables, agrivoltaics, and marine energy. Prior to National Grid, Sander held a number of innovation roles within the Italian utility Enel, working with local and global business units to drive the company’s progress towards carbon neutrality and sustainability goals. He previously founded ESAI Energy’s work in clean transportation fuels and electric vehicles. Sanders has an M.A. in Energy Policy and International Finance from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and a B.A. in History from Columbia University.

Birju Shah, Founder, Loam.Ag

Most recently, Birju was the former head of product at Uber Health & Sustainability. He is founder of Loam.ag, a data science platform & blockchain protocol to real-time track land based carbon projects.


Prior to this role, Birju owned multiple groups at Uber that look to solve the most difficult real-world problems with advanced technologies like AI, computer vision and sensing and perception. Problem examples measuring emissions of uber vehicles, visualizations of rides & emissions, predicting/preventing accidents, and much more. He is now applying his expertise to land based carbon tracking. Previously, Birju was an executive at Climate Corporation, Arrowstream where he dove into farm to table data science on the food supply chain. Birju has launched more than 10 products that attribute to about $3B in revenue over the last decade.


Birju holds an MBA from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Sloan School of Business, where he was a McGovern Scholar and a Legatum Scholar. Birju is a graduate of Northwestern University with a BSE in Industrial Engineering.

Juan Cristobal Constain, Co-founder & COO, QUIPU

Juan is currently co-founder and COO of Quipu Market, a financial inclusion startup incubated at MIT since 2018 focused on supporting small businesses in informality in Latin America.


He graduated from the Masters in City Planning program at MIT in 2018, with an emphasis on economic and community development. Juan has experience working on social and economic development programs, fostering regional innovation ecosystems and developing civic technologies.


Before co-founding Quipu, he co-led for 7 years MIT CoLab’s work on leadership development and supporting a network of leaders and entrepreneurs in the Colombian Pacific Region. Before, he was part of the team formulating the Innovation District strategy at Ruta N, Medellin’s public innovation agency. He graduated from the Urban Management and Development program at Universidad del Rosario and also has a postgraduate degree in Urban Law from the same university.

Fernando Assad, Co-Founder, Vivenda

Fernando Assad is co-founder of Vivenda, an award-winning Brazilian social business that seeks to revolutionize the housing renovation market for the low-income population. Elected Young Social Entrepreneur of the Year by Folha de São Paulo and the Schwab Foundation, he is an Ashoka fellow and holds a master's degree in business administration from the University of São Paulo.


Jonathan Berezovsky, Founder & Executive Director, Migrafix

Jonathan Berezovsky is the founder and executive director of Migraflix. He was born in Buenos Aires and holds a degree in Business Economics. He spent four years in Tel Aviv, where he worked in a startup incubator and founded Townflix, a platform that promotes small businesses through online videos. Still in Israel, he participated in Microfy, an organization that supports refugees through microcredit. In 2014 he moved to Sao Paulo to develop the market for his startup and a year later he founded Migraflix, a social startup that supports food microentrepreneurs in Brazil and is about to land in Colombia and Peru.



Espen Kvelland, CEO, Wakandi Group AS

Espen Kvelland is the CEO of Wakandi Group AS. He is a technologist who is passionate about how devops and modern technology can drive the digital transformation and social innovation needed in developing parts of the world. He is highly experienced in technology management and building services in demanding segments and markets.


Dr. Alix Barasch, Associate Professor of Marketing, NYU Stern

Alixandra Barasch is an Associate Professor of Marketing at NYU’s Stern School of Business. She earned her Ph.D. in Marketing from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, and her B.S. in Psychology at Duke University. She is also a Visiting Associate Professor at INSEAD.


Alix’s research examines how new technologies are fundamentally reshaping consumer behavior and well-being. For example, in one stream of research, she investigates how different technologies (e.g., photo-taking, live streaming, personal quantification) affect consumers’ enjoyment and memories of their experiences, as well as how consumers pursue goals and interpersonal relationships. Another stream of her research explores how people communicate with others in online contexts, how they decide to share information or resources with others, and how they make inferences about others from various sorts of signals. Alix also studies moral judgments associated with new technologies, such as how consumers evaluate the fairness of new innovations and how people and companies communicate their status and generosity through social media and word-of-mouth. Finally, another related stream of Alix’s work explores prosocial behavior (e.g., charitable donations), both in terms of what motivates people to do good deeds and how consumers perceive the good deeds of others.


Alix’s research has been published in top marketing journals (Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Marketing Research) and psychology journals (Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, Psychological Science). Her work is also regularly featured in worldwide media outlets such as New York Times, Atlantic, Time, Washington Post, Business Insider, Boston Globe, Fast Company, Wired, Slate, NPR, CNN, among others. She currently serves on the editorial boards at the Journal of Marketing, Journal of Consumer Research and Journal of Consumer Psychology.

Before starting her graduate studies, Professor Barasch worked at MDRC, a non-profit dedicated to education policy research. She was also selected as a Fulbright Scholar, and spent a year teaching at the University of Macau and doing research at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

Kathleen Murphy Toms, Director of Digital Strategy, GivingTuesday

Kathleen Murphy Toms is the director of digital strategy for GivingTuesday. The biggest philanthropic movement in history, GivingTuesday leverages social media and a broad network to ignite a movement and global call to action to give. It has seen record-breaking engagement at every level of society - from some of the world's biggest celebrities and influencers to students, volunteers, and everyday givers. Kathleen studies the use of digital tools in social movements, particularly their use in shifting power, creating mass mobilization, and achieving global equity. She is a faculty member at the Center for Global Affairs at New York University.

Meghan Bond, Founder, MB Creative

Meagan Bond is a brand strategist, storyteller, and creative problem solver working at the intersection of art and activism alongside the world’s most influential artists, philanthropists, and leaders. She has more than 15 years of experience delivering campaigns and content that have helped recruit millions of new supporters and mobilize billions of dollars for social change.


Before founding her own consulting agency, Meagan led creative and brand development at REFORM Alliance, a national justice reform organization founded by Meek Mill, Jay-Z, Van Jones, and others. Before that, Meagan was the Global Brand Director for the ONE Campaign, the global campaigning and advocacy organization co-founded by Bono to end extreme poverty.


Meagan started her career in journalism where she learned the importance of adapting quickly and the power of a story well told. In all of her work, Meagan aims to create experiences that break down barriers, elicit empathy, and empower viewers to take meaningful action.

Julia Campbell (she/hers), Host, Nonprofit Nation Podcast

Jordan Kurzweil, Acting Head of Digital, Comic Relief & Co-CEO, Superlative

Through his diverse experiences as both an external agent and internal executive, Jordan has honed the firsthand perspective, knowledge, and operational expertise to help companies effect change and execute at scale.


Jordan graduated from Colgate University with a BA in Fine Arts and English. He is an avid surfer, lapsed marathoner, and volunteers with The Black Surfing Association and Surfrider Foundation. Jordan lives in Brooklyn, NY, with his wife Stephanie, and their two teenagers.


Dr. Snehi S. Kapur, Professor, NYU Stern

Professor Kapur is the Chief Medical Officer of a Health Tech company. Previously she was the Chief Medical Office (CMO) for Specialty care and Population Health at a large multispecialty organization (Essen Healthcare) in New York. In addition, Dr Kapur is also a Medical Director in a healthcare management company (Evicore/Cigna), a practicing physician, Clinical Researcher / Physician Scientist and a Consultant in the field of healthcare. She is an adjunct Professor at NYU Stern and teaches healthcare management and operations.

Dr Kapur is a mental health advocate and her areas of interest are use of AI in behavioral and mental health, and early intervention for chronic diseases to reduce hospital admissions, cardiac care and stroke. She has worked on data analytics and use of AI to reduce inequities in US healthcare as part of population health initiatives in her previous roles.

Fariha Ahsan, Director of Diversity Innovation Hub, Mt. Sinai Health System

Fariha Ahsan is the Director of the Diversity Innovation Hub (DIH) at the Mount Sinai Health System. In this strategic role, she is responsible for leading and overseeing the planning, execution and assessment on all DIH strategy, projects and activities on behalf of the Office for Diversity and Inclusion; including partnering on the creation of equitable and thoughtfully built technologies, and creating capacity for underrepresented entrepreneurs in the health tech space. She also oversees the incubator that invests in innovative solutions to address social and structural determinants of health and advance diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Fariha has extensive experience in health informatics, digital health, and business and clinical operations, having worked at NYU Langone Medical Center and New York-Presbyterian Hospital. Her educational background includes a Master of Public Administration in health finance from NYU and a Master of Science in health informatics from Weill Cornell Medicine. Fariha also has entrepreneurial experience, leading the creation of a clinical decision-making tool to detect postpartum depression, and another tool targeted at improving access to care for immigrant mothers from the South Asian diaspora.

Mio Akasako, Co-Founder & VP of Design, Ash Wellness

Mio is co-founder and VP of Design at Ash Wellness, a startup which focuses on paving the way for more inclusive and accessible healthcare by enabling providers and businesses alike to provide at-home diagnostics care to their patients.


Previously a neuroscience researcher, she spent years studying the circuitry of the visual system before entering the biotech sector to help develop therapeutics that harness the gut-brain axis. She simultaneously earned her graduate degree in Data Visualization at Parsons School of Design. Her desire to combine health and science, tech, and design manifests in her work at Ash Wellness.

Dr. Scott Kaiser, Co-Founder & CEO, Determined Health

Dr. Scott Kaiser, a board-certified family physician and geriatrician, is the co-founder and CEO of Determined Health, a health startup focused on driving meaningful engagement and decreasing isolation through its connection1st platform.

Dr. Kaiser completed his undergraduate studies at Vassar College with a degree in Science, Technology, and Society. He received his medical degree from the Keck School of Medicine of USC and went on to train within the Lawrence Family Medicine Residency, a program dedicated to community health and the care of underserved populations.

Following residency, Dr. Kaiser joined the Harvard Geriatric Medicine Fellowship, where he refined his clinical skills, conducted research on health behavior change, and launched a series of community health promotion programs. He completed additional fellowship training within UCLA’s Primary Care and Health Services Research Fellowship as a Health Media Fellow.

Following his training, Dr. Kaiser joined the Motion Picture & Television Fund (MPTF), a charitable organization serving members of the entertainment industry community, as their Chief Innovation Officer. In this role, Dr. Kaiser leads efforts to improve population health and well-being through social and community-based interventions that aim to support people in living and aging well.

Dr. Kaiser has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, including novel research on the impact of combined exercise and memory training on cognitive function, and is frequently invited to speak to a broad range of both expert and general audiences. He is passionately committed to advancing novel approaches to improving health and innovations in geriatric care.

He serves on the board of several community organizations and is an active member of the American Geriatrics Society, Gerontological Society of America, American Society on Aging, American Medical Association, and Massachusetts Medical Society.

Amy Blankson, Co-Founder, Digital Wellness Institute

Amy Blankson is the CEO Of Fearless Positivity, Co-Founder of the Digital Wellness Institute, and bestselling author of The Future of Happiness. A graduate of Harvard and the Yale School of Management, she’s the only person to receive a Point of Light award from two US Presidents. She is also a member of the UN Global Happiness Council, a Fellow of the World Innovation Organization, a featured professor in Oprah’s happiness e-course, and a regular contributor to Forbes. Nina Hersher, CEO and Co-Founder, Digital Wellness Institute

Nina Hersher is CEO of the Digital Wellness Institute, author of the bestseller Your Playbook for Thriving in the Remote Work Era, and an internationally renowned speaker. A leading expert in Digital Wellness, Hersher holds a specialized MSW from WashU St. Louis in Digital Culture and Program Development. Hersher is also the co-founder of Digital Wellness Day, reaching over 7.5 million people across the globe in 2021. She runs Evolving in the Digital Age™, a consulting firm dedicated to mental health best practices in a fast-paced world, and holds additional credentials as an Oasis in the Overwhelm Facilitator, Teen Outreach Program Facilitator, and Meditation Teacher. Jay Vidyarthi, Founder, Still Ape

Jay Vidyarthi is an attention activist and the founder of Still Ape - the world's first UX design studio focused exclusively on mindfulness, compassion, and wellbeing. He is working toward a society where access points to self-care and collective transformation are as diverse as the people who need them. He also teaches mindfulness to individuals and groups, where he inspires people to reclaim their freedom of attention in our culture of influence.


As a human-centered designer, Jay's been involved in creating Muse: the brain sensing headband, Sonic Cradle, the Healthy Minds Program, Brightmind, and 10+ more mindful technologies. He helped start the Mindful Society Global Institute and serves on its advisory council. He’s taught design at major institutions and his work and ideas have been recognized and featured internationally (Harvard, MIT, CHI, UToronto, Mindful.org, Forbes, Vice, World Happiness Week, Fast Company, TED, TransTech200, UX Awards, etc).

Sophie Purdom, Founder, Climate Tech VC

Sophie Purdom is a sustainable business practitioner; first at the Brown University endowment, followed by a few years decking at Bain & Co., published a book on ESG along the way, and founded an agtech venture (Kula Bio, raised +$65m). She now writes Climate Tech VC (20,000+ newsletter readers) and is building something new while investing in early stage climate technology companies.

Connie Deng, Principal, Emerson Collective

Connie is a principal at Emerson Collective, the family office of Laurene Powell Jobs. She is focused on investing in growth stage (Series B+) companies at the intersection of financial return and impact potential at scale, with a focus on fintech. Prior to Emerson Collective, she worked at Pritzker Group Venture Capital, YCharts, and BlackRock. She holds a BS in Economics and a BA in Linguistics from Duke. Connie lives in San Francisco with her husband and rescue dog.

Jason Blumberg, Co-Founder & Managing Director, Energy Foundry

Jason is Co-founder & Managing Director at Energy Foundry, a leading early-stage venture capital fund that builds groundbreaking cleantech and energy companies. Jason sets the firm’s vision, leads investments, and coaches entrepreneurs. He earned his MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, receiving the Dean’s Award of Distinction and a BA from Michigan State University.

Ola Kulynych, Principal, The Collaborative Fund

Ola is an investor at Collaborative Fund, a NY-based venture capital firm, where she helps lead sustainability investments across materials, food, and decarbonization. Ola is passionate about women taking control of their financial future, and is a founding member of BFF, an initiative that empowers women and non-binary people to invest in crypto/web3.

Prior to working at Collaborative, Ola was an investor at ICONIQ Capital, a $80B+ multi-family office, focusing on investments in Venture Capital, Growth Equity, and Private Equity. Prior to ICONIQ, Ola worked at Credit Suisse in the Technology group as an investment banking analyst and Ironwood Partners as an investor.

Ola received an Honors B.A. from The Richard Ivey School of Business at The University of Western Ontario. Ola grew up in Toronto, London, and Ukraine.
