Research
My research falls into two broad buckets (sometimes including the overlap of the two):
First, I'm interested in a behavioral view of the innovation process, including how cognition, motivation, and structure affect the direction of search and innovation.
Second, I'm interested in the evolutionary processes of industries and technologies, including how new technologies substitute for old ones, how incumbent firms do (or don't) adapt, and how firms create new products to pursue new opportunities.
While most of my work involves large-scale empirical analyses, I have complemented this with models, qualitative work, and surveys.
