Gears

Description:

Gears drive the things in our everyday life! They are so subtle sometimes that you don't know that they're there. For example, have you ever thought about the gears in a bike and why those gears are the sizes that they are? We're going to be diving into gear ratios and simple/compound gear trains.

This unit will be a shorter unit, as it is a small connection to simple machines. This unit bridges our way into the compound machine design project! We'll learn how to incorporate gear trains into our compound machine.

I'll wrap up the description by telling you to take some time to really think about the question, "Why are bike gear sizes the way sizes that they are?"
