SEMINARS FOR STEINER / WALDORF TEACHERS AROUND THE WORLD

The Philosophy of Spiritual Activity

Welcome to the Summer Seminar for Subject Teachers at Steiner-schools!

It will take place at the Rudolf Steiner School in Helsinki on August the 1st to the 3nd.

The seminar is an inspiring start for the new school year! It will include interesting lectures, practical and artistic workshops and a lot of possibilities to meet colleges from all over the schools in Finland and some from abroad! The key-note speaker during the seminar is the writer Thomas Meyer, who will open with a lecture on Rudolf Steiner´s «The Philosophy of spiritual Activity». The themes of his lectures are:

  • Thursday: «The Philosophy of spiritual Activity» as a gateway to a modern consciousness of the spirit. What is thinking and its meaning? – Beyond subject and object – Thinking -Thought - Words
  • Friday: The Pearl of Clairvoyance in thinking (referring to a lecture of RS in Helsinki in 1913, GA §146) and modern Taoism
  • Saturday: The social question, Individualism and egotism, good an evil

After every seminar and the lecture there will be a dialogue with participants.

In the workshops we will work artistically on the themes of the lectures and develop our own teaching, for example by studying the portfolio- and notebook work of students at Upper Secondary school level. In the artistic workshops you can study visual thinking in the arts or do eurythmy and music. These groups relate also to the lectures. For the new subject teachers there is the opportunity of getting acquainted with Antroposophy in the group that is led by Thomas Meyer: “Introduction group into Anthroposophy: What is Anthroposophy or spiritual science?

High School Main Lesson Book and Portfolio Work

In the workshop, subject teachers gather together to develop their own teaching, based on the questions below. The aim is to get tools for teaching in upper secondary Waldorf school and Waldorf high school. In the workshop, each teacher will work on one or more of their own courses developing them together with other teachers. This is also an opportunity to plan cross-curricular courses.

- How do I apply the Main Lesson book in a new way in high school?

- How can I use portfolio methods in high school?

- How do I support the student's freedom in my teaching?

- What artistic methods could I use in my teaching?

- How do I include rhythmic elements to my teaching?

- How do I plan my teaching so that it supports the student's learning and development in a balanced way?

- How do I cultivate my own freedom in my work?
