KOOP is a community radio station in Austin, TX, which went on-air in 1994. It is owned and operated by its members in a cooperative structure that relies primarily upon its volunteers and supporters for all operations. Since its origins in the early 1980s, KOOP has provided a diverse array of programming, emphasizing programs that deal with local issues and/or serve communities which are under-served by the mainstream media.
The KOOP Community Radio Archive at St. Edward’s University preserves the voices, stories, and culture of one of Austin’s most beloved independent radio stations. Housed in Munday Library, this collection captures KOOP’s legacy of grassroots media, music, and community activism.
