During the Dallas Cowboys' Super Bowl run in the 1990s they spent their summers training on the campus of St. Edward's University.
The City of Austin provided some funding for the creation of practice fields on campus in the area on the south side of campus near Woodward (where several campus housing buildings stand today) and SEU provided access to dorms and other facilities.
The then-fledgling team hoped the move would energize the fanbase in Central Texas and give the players time to acclimate to the Texas heat. SEU capitalized on the publicity and planned numerous recruitment/fundraising events around the team's presence on campus.
The Cowboys won three Super Bowls during this time, though their off-the-field scandals earned them the reputation as "the most wanted team in America." The collaboration between the City of Austin, SEU, and the Cowboys dissolved by 1998, with all sides agreeing that while the partnership had been fruitful, it had run its course.
The Dallas Cowboys Training Camp Records are held by the Munday Library at St. Edward's University. Here you will find a selection of digitized materials.
