Absent Make-up Work Policy
Our goal as seventh and eighth grade teachers at St. Dominic Catholic School is to prepare your student for the high school academic environment. In high school, if a day is missed for any reason, your son or daughter will be expected to visit each teacher and seek missed assignments and notes. Because our students change classes every period and are often not in their homeroom for their last class, it is very difficult for either the teacher or another student to gather work, because it takes instructional time away from the last period class. With this in mind, our policy provides the 7th and 8th graders of St. Dominic Catholic School the opportunity to take personal responsibility for their own education and help them prepare for high school. The policy, regarding work missed by students who are absent, is as follows:
If a student misses a day of school for any reason, the student who is absent is responsible for going to each teacher in the morning, before homeroom begins, on the first day they return to school. Students will then collect missing assignments and any key notes they have missed.
There is already a school policy that allows students who miss school to have extra time to turn in missed assignments. This is because students who miss school, particularly due to illness, are usually unable to complete work while they are absent. It is better that they are truly rested and well when they return to school and are then ready to complete missing work.

Procedure for Tardy Students
If the class period has started and you are not in your seat and ready for instruction, you are late. This is disruptive to our learning environment and disrespectful to the teacher and students in the class. Teachers allow an appropriate amount of time to pass between classes, and you should use this time wisely. Stop at your locker only if necessary, and don’t stand in the hall talking to friends. Help each other get to class on time!
If you enter the classroom late, you will be expected to fill out a tardy slip. Teachers will have their own procedures on where and when you will fill out the forms. You should enter the room quietly, and quickly take your seat and get ready to learn. Be considerate of others and do not disrupt the class, and do not argue or give excuses for being late. If you have a tardy pass, hand that to the teacher and you will be excused.
Beyond impacting your learning, repeated infractions will warrant disciplinary action. These tardy slips will be collected by homeroom teachers, and they will keep a record of them. Your third tardy slip will result in a Correction Notice. (Three Correction Notices lead to a detention.)
