The first opium war was a conflict that occurred between Great Britain and the Qing Dynasty of China. The conflict occurred due to Chinas attempt to cede the illegal opium trade (by Britain). The first opium war ended in 1842, with the victory of Britain and the treaty of Nanking. This made the Chinese cede Hong Kong to Britain for 99 years. (10000 years of economy)
