St. Clair Business Education Courses

The following Business Education classes are offered at St. Clair High School

Computer 7 - Students will continue to develop their keyboarding skills while increasing their speed while learning basic usages for everyday computing. This class will emphasize the beginning uses of Google Docs/Applications, as well as Microsoft Office Applications. They will also gain experience in Video media with Photo Story and Windows Movie Maker Live. The course will also serve as an introduction to Windows 10, Coding, Digital Citizenship and the Internet. This is a semester class required of all 7th graders.

Computer 10 - This course will explore the use of various software packages on a microcomputer. Students will be introduced to intermediate applications in the Microsoft Office Suite 2013 of Word, Excel, and Power Point. Other programs that will be briefly covered include: Windows 10, Google Docs/Application, Movie Maker Live, Audacity, Photo Story, Publisher, Coding, Digital Citizenship and Web 2.0 Applications. This course is designed to acquaint the student with the more popular type of computer software that they will encounter in their day-by-day life at home, at school or at work This is a semester class required of all 10th graders.

Computers and You - This class will expand the student’s skills in advanced applications in the Microsoft Office 2013 Suite including Word, Excel, Publisher, Power Point, and Access. Other topics to be covered include: Google Docs/Applications, Adobe Photoshop Elements, Adobe Premiere Elements, Digital Video Cameras, Digital Cameras, Scanners, Animation, Movie Maker Live, Coding, Digital Citizenship and various Web 2.0 Applications. This course will enable the student to use the applications for personal and school and also prepare them for a variety of technological skills in the work force. This course can be taken for both High School and Technical/Community College credit. Juniors and seniors can earn the following articulation agreements: Beginning Word Processing, Keyboarding, Introduction to Computers, Word 2013, Excel 2013, PowerPoint 2013 and Desktop Publishing This is a year-long elective course open to all 11th and 12th graders. This class is an articulated course and students can earn up to 12 college credits. This class is offered as a Blended Class.

Code Me Up 1 and 2 - a year-long elective course open to 7th & 8th graders. Regardless of career path, coding literacy is a critical foundation for the future success of kids today. In this class, you create your own interactive games with a variety of Coding Programs. You will engage in design thinking exercises and collaborate with a team to generate ideas for a game. Coding opens up a world of possibilities for creativity and design. You will work together to solve problems, share thinking, and actively reflect on your work throughout the week. Most importantly, you will learn by playing and having fun!

Accounting - This course is the study of accounting procedures for starting a business and creating financial statements for a service and merchandising business. Students will experience the accounting cycle using computers to simulate accounting transactions. The primary units of study include the accounting cycle for a proprietorship and corporation including payroll and cash controls. The students will demonstrate learning through projects, daily work, tests, and participation in class. The course is recommended for individuals who have an interest in pursuing the field of business as a profession. This course can be taken for both High School and Technical/Community College credit. Juniors and seniors can earn the following articulation agreement: Principles of Bookkeeping. This is a year-long elective course open to all 11th and 12th graders. This class is an articulated course and students can earn up to 3 college credits. This class is offered as a Blended Class.

Careers/Personal Finance - It's a big decision! With so many choices and so much to consider, finding the right career path is a challenge for many high school students. You're not alone! This course is designed to help students obtain, identify and explore their career options, so that they can plan wisely for their future education and work experiences. Students will also be exposed to career clusters, academic institutions, financial aid, scholarships, and decisions to be faced when graduating from high school. This course will help you in writing your resume, letter of application and preparing for the interview. This course offers the opportunity for students to develop a personal portfolio to include goals, values, abilities and experiences. Personal Finance will inform students how individual choices directly influence occupational goals and future earnings potential. Real world topics covered will include income, money management, spending and credit, as well as saving and investing. Students will design personal and household budgets utilizing checking and saving accounts, gain knowledge in finance, debt and credit management, and evaluate and understand insurance and taxes. This course will provide a foundation understanding for making informed personal financial decisions leading to financial independence. This is a Semester class required of all 11th graders. This class is offered as a Blended Class.
