All students will develop a Personal Learning Plan required by Minnesota Statute, section 120B.125. A Personal Learning Plan is meant to help students to successfully transition to postsecondary and employment. Students are required to take classes with career components embedded into the curriculum. Theses classes are listed below.
Industrial Arts & Careers 9: This course is designed to introduce students to the basic operation and controls of three types of robots. They will be required to complete several individual robot tasks along with a final three robot challenge. Students will be introduced to the world of 3D Residential construction using the Chief Architect software. Students will be introduced to the field of MECHATRONICS using real world programming software and trainers to create a functional, modern, manufacturing company. Students will have to learn how to solve issues that arise when attempting to satisfy customer demands and learn about how trade-offs need to be made and explained in order to satisfy design requirements. The course will also focus on careers in the trades and manufacturing fields. Students will also utilize MCIS to explore different careers. This is a required course for all 9th graders.
Careers & Computer Applications: Have you ever wondered what it would be like to run your own business? What skills would you need? Where would you begin? This hands-on, semester-long course will allow you to use your creativity while learning more about different career options and fine tuning your digital design skills. This is a required course for all 10th graders.
Careers & Personal Finance: Careers - It's a big decision! With so many choices and so much to consider, finding the right career path is a challenge for many high school students. You're not alone! This course is designed to help students obtain, identify and explore their career options, so that they can plan wisely for their future education and work experiences. Students will also be exposed to career clusters, academic institutions, financial aid, scholarships, and decisions to be faced when graduating from high school. This course will help you in writing your resume, letter of application and preparing for the interview. This course offers the opportunity for students to develop a personal portfolio to include goals, values, abilities and experiences. Personal Finance will inform students how individual choices directly influence occupational goals and future earnings potential. Real world topics covered will include income, money management, spending and credit, as well as saving and investing. Students will design personal and household budgets utilizing checking and saving accounts, gain knowledge in finance, debt and credit management, and evaluate and understand insurance and taxes. This course will provide a foundational understanding for making informed personal financial decisions leading to financial independence. This is a required course for all 11th graders.
Careers 12 & Job Shadow: This class will focus on the research and choices that the students will be facing while getting ready for post secondary schooling and the world of work. The first area that will be covered will be school and career research with the use of the MNCIS website. This will give the students a chance to do interest surveys, research what is needed for those careers and which schools have the education programs that cover the education requirement. Students will also spend time on post-high school applications and requirements, scholarship applications, career planning and career changing. Along with completing a Job Shadow opportunity on their Blended days. This is a required course for all 12th graders.
