SCIENCE
The focus of our Science curriculum is to develop unbiased thinkers who are able to critically assess their own thinking as well as the sources they encounter. Academic vocabulary will be a focus of our study. All units of study are aligned with Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS),which aim to bring student output to the forefront of the learning process.
ELA/Vocabulary
The focus of our ELA/Vocabulary is to develop strong writing skills by crafting narratives, informative pieces, arguments and more with clear structure and purpose. Grammar instruction focuses on sentence structure, parts of speech, punctuation, and usage to improve writing clarity and correctness. Vocabulary study emphasizes understanding word meanings through context, roots, prefixes, suffixes and more, helping students expand their language and apply new words in both speech and writing.
VOCABULARY – Vocabulary can be a struggle for students, especially those who have trouble with memorization or pronunciation. Therefore, it is essential to review your vocabulary terms nightly for maximum retention and understanding.
Flash cards and review with a friend, parent, or brother/sister are very helpful. Spelling Bees, games, and other word work will also be conducted for review.
NEW THIS YEAR - WRITING and GRAMMAR books - We will be introducing new writing and grammar books this year that will focus a lot more on writing properly and the different forms of writing.
I will ensure that ELA/Vocabulary will be a fun filled year for the 6th graders!
