During the Innovative Designer/Computational Thinker unit, 5th grade students will use the engineering design process to collaboratively create a story with multiple plots, using computer programming. They will be able to:
evaluate a problem in a new and novel situation
apply a step-by-step design process, computational thinking, and mathematical thinking to solve a problem
apply technology to solve age-appropriate challenges by creating digital artifacts, such as games or stories
collaborate effectively on a diverse and multidisciplinary team
communicate effectively for specific purposes and settings
practice ethical behavior in all settings
understand how the engineering design process can be applied in daily life.
demonstrate how to accomplish simple tasks with block coding after receiving direct instructions
recognize specific terminology such as: Design process (ask, model, explore, evaluate, explain), criteria, constraints, decision matrix, algorithm, animation, brainstorm, bug, code, conditional statement, coordinate grid, debug, driver, event, function, loop, navigator, pair programming, program, sequence, test
Students will learn these skills while using Google Classroom, Google Slides, Google Drawings, Google Docs, Google Drive, PLTW, Scratch, and Seesaw.
