Mindwise: Understanding Trauma

This training is designed to provide all participants with a foundational understanding of trauma, including the prevalence and impact of trauma across the lifespan and implications for communities.
Attendees will:
Learn about the types of traumas, characteristics of traumatic responses, and how the body and brain react to traumatic stress
Explore risk and protective factors that influence an individuals’ response to trauma and potential post-trauma pathways
Learn about secondary and vicarious trauma, and explore strategies for self-care as an ethical imperative
Presenter:
James McCauley, LICSW Assistant Program Director of MindWise. Jim is the co-founder of MindWise’sTrauma Center. He has been a clinician, manager, professor, and consultant for over 30 years in the U.S. and abroad. Jim specializes in trauma postvention, suicide clusters, and developing and supporting suicide prevention coalitions. He presents nationally and internationally. An Army veteran, Jim has a special interest in developing and providing services for returning vets.
