This session is tailored to faculty. We will discuss the benefits of contextualized composition courses, learning communities which teach the specific writing skills and styles appropriate to a non-composition discipline. Participants will be invited to share their experiences incorporating writing into their teaching. In this session, faculty will learn strategies to identify and develop opportunities for writing across the curriculum.
Presenters:
Steven Nelson (pronouns he/him) is an Associate Professor of English and the Chair of the Humanities Department. He has worked to develop and pilot Open English models, STCC’s Directed Self-Placement process, and corequisite writing courses.
Ashley Pease is an Assistant Professor of Psychology and the Coordinator of Behavioral Sciences. She earned her MS from Springfield College and currently stands ABD in Springfield College’s Sport and Exercise Psychology Program. Her assignment design philosophy encourages students to write critically about course topics to demonstrate their learning and mastery of important concepts.
