STCC Community of Practices: The 2022-23 Edition

Our panel discussion will be speaking about Communities of Practice (CoP) which are groups of people who share common concerns, passions, or interests in topics, who come together to fulfill both individual and group goals.  Join this panel as they review the progress CoPs have made in the Fall of 2022 and where they plan to go during 2023.


Moderator:

Dr. Mary Wiseman  (pronouns she/her/hers), is Director of Instructional Innovation and Faculty Investment and leads the Center for Online & Digital Learning. Mary’s research is in curriculum, teaching, learning and leadership with particular focus on equity and culturally relevant teaching practices.


Presenters:

Dr. Aimee Dalenta has worked in the field of education for the entirety of her career. She has presented at national conferences in the areas of teaching pedagogy, student engagement, assessment, and child development, and has contributed to several books and educational publications. Aimee has taught in multiple settings from preschool through graduate school and is fiercely passionate about the community college mission. Her doctoral dissertation focused on developmental readers at the college level.


Richard Greco (pronouns he/him), Dean of Liberal and Professional Studies, holds an AA from STCC, a BS in Biochemistry and a BS in Human Biology from American International College, and an MS in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the University of Saint Joseph. He is pursuing a doctorate in public administration at West Chester University.


Dr. Emilie Clucas Leaderman (pronouns she/her), is the Assistant Dean of Liberal and Professional Studies.  As an educator, she supports learner-centered teaching and elevating student voices through data-guided decisions.


Marisha Marks (pronouns she/her), joined STCC as an Instructional Designer in September of 2020, just as STCC was transitioning from the Covid-19 rapid pivot to remote learning to a more permanent offering of courses in diverse modalities to best serve the needs of our students. Marisha focuses on accessibility and Universal Design for Learning as a way to remove learning barriers and help faculty develop quality courses with student success in mind.


Ashley Pease is an Assistant Professor of Psychology and the Coordinator of Behavioral Sciences. She earned her MS from Springfield College and currently stands ABD in Springfield College’s Sport and Exercise Psychology Program. Since 2015, Ashley has worked with multiple colleges across Massachusetts as an “APA Consultant,” teaching faculty, graduate students and undergraduate students the ins and outs of APA stylistics.


Ann Simao (pronouns she/her), is a professor in the Mathematics Department. She has represented STCC as one of the Equity Faculty Fellows over the past two years at statewide meetings. She is excited to share some of what she learned during Professional Day.


Jennifer Wallace-Johnson (pronouns she/her),  is a longtime Springfield Technical Community College employee who has served in roles within Campus Safety, Student Support Services, and Academic Affairs. She currently serves as Assistant Professor of Social Work, has served as the co-chair of the Hispanic Association in Higher Education at STCC, is on the Board of Trustees at the Martin Luther King Charter School of Excellence in Springfield, MA, and the Springfield Ballers non-profit youth sports organization.
