SESSION 3: 1:40pm-12:300pm | F/S | Room 312
Student Veterans are a distinct and diverse group of students who enrich the campus population with their real-world experience. Yet, they can be an at-risk group. This session will delve into who the student veteran is, the challenges they face, and how our office can supports student veterans, and you!
Presenters:
Dr. Kimberly Reese (she/her/hers) is an Air Force Veteran, and the Veterans Academic Counselor on campus. Her dissertation, A Gender Comparison Mixed-Methods Study: Creating Veteran-Inclusive Campuses, researched the distinct needs of student veterans in the classroom and on campus, and how the needs differ based on gender. She is a UDL Fellow, and taught full-time at a university in CT.
Jasmine Herman (she/her/hers) is an STCC alum (’13) and tireless advocate for our Veteran students. Never having served, she deeply admires and appreciates the service and sacrifice of our active duty service members and veterans. Temporarily as the Veterans liaison, and now as back up School Certifying Officer, she continues to work closely with the military-affiliated population and with staff and faculty to better understand and serve these students.
