What is Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)?
MFA protects your account by requiring more than just a username and password to access STCC systems. With MFA, you must provide a combination of two or more authentication methods to verify your identity before accessing your account.
Instead of requiring just a username and password, which can be easily cracked or stolen, MFA verifies it’s you by requiring another piece of information- such as a PIN, authorization through an application on your phone, or a verification phone call.
What is DUO?
DUO is the multi-factor authentication software app that verifies a user's identity after a username and password is entered. The DUO software manages the connection with a user’s cell phone, sends a text message, or initiates a phone call for verificaiton. The software provides a secure connection to the college networks and email system. DUO is the software chosen by STCC to manage the MFA process.
What if I don't have a cell phone or cannot download the DUO app?
STCC provides hardware tokens that can be used for DUO multi-factor authentication. When configured, these hard tokens send a one-time, unique passcode that can be used to authenticate with your STCC account each time you connect. Contact the Help Desk at helpdesk@stcc.edu to obtain a token.
I did not receive a DUO registration email, how can I get a new one?
If you did not receive the DUO registration email, check your SPAM folder. If you are still unable to locate the registration, please contact the Help Desk at helpdesk@stcc.edu and a new code will be sent to you.
I received a DUO email, but the code is expired, what should I do?
If you received a DUO registration email and opened the message but did not complete the registration, the code is expired. Please contact the Help Desk at helpdesk@stcc.edu and request a new registration email.
How can I get assistance with setting up DUO?
We are offering three drop-in sessions during the week of October 28:
Monday, October 28 from 6:00-8:00 PM - Online Zoom drop-in session
Tuesday, October 29 and Wednesday, October 30 In-person in the Student Commons/B19 from 12:00-1:30 pm.

Please make arrangements to set up your DUO account prior to this deadline so that you are not blocked from your Google applications.
