Y5 Interhouse Netball

Another week, another interhouse netball tournament! Well done to Year 5 for their fantastic efforts and determination. We saw some excellent netball skills and wonderful sportsmanship. It came down to the final game between Cavell and Nightingale but a draw was enough to see Cavell lift the trophy! Nightingale followed in second, Bronte in third and Pankhurst in fourth. Congratulations to the following pupils who were voted 'Girls of the Game' by their peers: Ottilie DLH, Annabel E, Isabel S, Ania H, Bella W, Edie C, Erin B, Lottie D, Cecilia MS, Charlotte E and Imogen P.

Y6 Interhouse Netball

Amidst all the changes this year has brought us, it was fantastic to be able to return to one thing we all know and love... interhouse netball! Year 6 competed with great spirit, determination and outstanding sportsmanship in their annual interhouse netball tournament. It was a close finish between first and second, but with 3 wins out of 3, Cavell were victorious! Bronte took second, Nightingale third and Pankhurst fourth. Congratulations to the following pupils who were voted 'Girls of the Game' by their peers: Alice T, Artemis K-H, Meghan S, Isla C, Hannah K, Gemma B, Bella D, Eva R and Jenya K. A special teachers mention from Miss Beacroft and Mrs Walters to Tia H for her resillience and Holly B for her wonderful shooting.

Richmond Borough Swimming Finals

On Wednesday 11th March, we took our 7 finalists to the Richmond Borough Primary Schools Finals where they swam against finalists from all other schools in the borough. They were absolutely fantastic and gave it their all. With their outstanding individual and relay results, St Catherine’s came away with the highest accolade - RICHMOND BOROUGH CHAMPIONS! We achieved not only the highest points total in the independent schools category but across ALL schools! We are tremendously proud of our swimmers and the dedication they give to the sport. Well done to the winning team: Harriet F, Isabel S, Lucy F, Chloe W, Emma T, Hanna R and Josie WL.

Y6 Netball vs. Newland House

On Tuesday 3rd March, we took our Year 6 Netball team to Newland House School for a friendly netball match. Over the four quarters, our girls demonstrated excellent energy, enthusiasm and effort. We held a strong defense to ensure we maintained possession of the ball and there were moments of superb play in our attacking third to feed the ball to our GA and GS. We came away with a convincing win of 4-0 and the Girl of the Match was voted Chloe W. We look forward to more fixtures with Newland House who were brilliant hosts.

Richmond Borough Swimming Heats

On Thursday 13th February, our prep swim team competed at the Richmond Borough Swimming Heats for a chance to qualify for the Richmond Borough Finals. Our squadron achieved 5th place overall which is a massive achievement as this was a mixed gender race against highly competitive schools such as Harrodian, The Mall and LEH. Our Freestyle and Medley relay team achieved incredible 1st places, qualifying them to the Borough Finals. Y3 Freestyle, Y5 Freestyle, Y6 Freestyle, Individual Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly have all qualified for the borough finals too! We couldn't be prouder of our swimmers and look forward to competing for medals in March! Well done to our team: Harriet F, Isabel S, Lucie O, Lucy F, Tia H, Chloe W, Emma T, Josie WL and Hanna R.

Y5 Interhouse Hockey

Year 5 completed their unit of Hockey this term with their interhouse tournament. We were impressed by their display of team work, support and leadership, not to mention some excellent Hockey skills and tactics. The results were close, with both Nightingale and Bronte sharing two wins and a draw. In the end, it came down to goal difference, and Nightingale were triumphant. Bronte took 2nd and Pankhurst and Cavell shared joint 3rd.

ISA Cross Country Championships

On Friday 7th February, the prep school took 10 competitors to the ISA Cross Country Championships where they had to run 1.9km across a range of challenging terrain in frosty conditions! They all gave it their best efforts and we are so proud of their determination and resilience against such a demanding course. A special congratulations to Samantha WL in Year 4 who came 9th in her event! This means she qualifies to the ISA Cross Country Nationals event in Sheffield. Well done to all!

A & B Football Match vs. Clarence House Prep

On Wednesday 5th February, our A team and B team played in their first ever football matches against Clarence House of Jack and Hill Prep School. Our girls were ready to give it their all and it definitely showed as they came out with two outstanding wins (7-1 & 2-1)! It was impressive to see how focused both teams were and how they applied their lunch time training into game play. They demonstrated an impressive work rate and held great composure during defensive play. The Girl of the Match for the A team was Lucy H, and for the B Team, Isabel S.

KS2 Bounce-a-thon!

On Tuesday 21st January, Year 4, 5 and 6 took part in the Bounce-a-thon! An activity aiming to raise money for our prep charities through non-stop trampoline bouncing. All pupils were excellent and showed off some brilliant trampoline skills. The atmosphere was electric, especially when Emma T hit 40 swivel hips in a row! Well done to all involved as they achieved their goal of one hour of trampolining. Across both KS1 and KS2 Bounce-a-thon's, we raised a total of £371.66!

Netball U10 A & B vs. Newland House

On Wednesday 15th January, Year 5 A & B teams were up against Newland House in their first netball fixture of the year. Both teams played with great strength, confidence and skill. The A team weren't able to prevent Newland House's top shooter and lost 10-4. The B team were dominant and excellent in defense however struggled to fully execute their scoring opportunities and drew 2-2. Lucy F (A team) and Isla C (B team) were voted Girl of the Game.

Our final gala of the year was against Newland House for our 'Top' swimmers and it was nail-biting till the very end! Both teams swam tremendously and it was reflective in the results which was tied up until the relays! We managed to pull through, and with an emphatic win during the squadron, came away victorious (95 - 90)! Many thanks to the parents who came and supported the pupils and well done to all our swimmers. It has been a brilliant term for swimming at St Catherine's and we look forward to more galas next term.

Y4 & Y5 Rugby Taster Day

On December 3rd, Year 4 and Year 5 pupils took part in an exciting rugby session led by the fantastic Harlequins RFC coaches Kirsty and Natalie! The pupils took part in many fun rugby-based games and it was great to see them all taking part in a new activity. We look forward to having Kirsty and Natalie back in after the Christmas break where they will be leading rugby lessons for Year 5 and Year 6 during their PE lessons. This will provide the pupils with a great opportunity to take part in rugby (and get a little muddy!).

ISA Nationals

On Saturday 30th November, at the stunning London Aquatic Centre in the Olympic Park, Emma from Year 6 represented London West (and St Catherine's!) in the 50m Breaststroke and Medley Relay. She swam brilliantly and earned herself 4th place in the individual event and an incredible 1st place in the relay event! In fact, all senior swimmers from St Catherine's who competed at Nationals also received medals, and helped to secure an emphatic 1st place victory for London West. Emma should be hugely proud of herself and we are extremely happy for her success.

Y5 & Y6 Interhouse Netball

On Tuesday 26th November, Year 5's competed in their Interhouse Netball Tournament. It was brilliant to see the girls use what they've learnt in lessons in competitive games and they thoroughly enjoyed playing the 'High 5s' format. Bronte came out on top with two wins and a draw. In second, was Cavell, with one win, one loss and one draw. Finally, in joint third, was Pankhurst and Nightingale, who shared one draw and two losses. Miss Beacroft and Mrs Walters acknowledge D. Gonzalez and E. Chawla for their excellent use of clearing space.

Year 6's also completed their Interhouse Netball Tournament and demonstrated great movement into space and brilliant gamesmanship. They organised positions themselves and ensured everyone was involved throughout. The results are: 1st - Cavell, 2nd - Pankhurst, 3rd - Bronte and 4th - Nightingale.

Richmond Borough Cross Country Championships

On Friday 22nd November, we took six pupils to compete in the Year 5/6 category at the Richmond Borough Cross Country Championships. It was a grueling course, spanning over 2km, with extremely muddy terrain with lots of climbs. Our girls held strong and completed the race with determination and strength! We are awaiting results but are hopefully we have two runners in the Top 50 of Richmond Borough. Well done to C. Wayman, L. Hoyer, C. Weaver, C. Midon-Seco, T. Hart and E. Chawla for their wonderful efforts.

LISL Swimming Gala Heats

We traveled to Notting Hill and Ealing High School to compete in the London Independent Schools League Swimming Gala Heats. This is an event involving 22 independent prep schools who compete for a Top 6 position to advance to the semi-finals. It was an extremely challenging gala; the standard of swimming was incredibly high. We dominated in the relays however struggled to secure 1st places in the individual events. Our girls swam their hearts out but unfortunately we did not qualify to the next stage. Nevertheless, it was a great experience to swim against tough competition, and the girls were immense in their efforts.

Swimming Gala vs. Newland House (Intermediate)

On Tuesday 19th November, our intermediate team swam against a strong Newland House but we came out on top with a convincing win (109 – 70)! We saw some excellent finishes with St Catherine’s swimmers managing to push hard to the very end. Our relays dominated, especially in the freestyle relays, where it is clear our racing practices in lessons have paid off. A huge well done to all involved and a big thank you to the parents for their excellent support on poolside. We look forward to our Top gala with Newland House in December.

ISA London West Swimming

We are so proud of our accomplishments this year during the ISA Swimming event. St Catherine's prep school took 12 competitors to the qualifying round at ACS Cobham, where every pupil was successful in achieving a Top 8 finish thus qualifying the entire team to the finals. A. Hegarty, I. Sleap, E. Terranova and C. Wayman also achieved individual medals for their events, as did the Year 4 and Year 6 Freestyle Relay teams. At the ISA Finals in Aldershot, pupils had the extremely challenging task of competing for Nationals - only the winner of the race would make it through! It is with huge excitement that we can announce that E. Terranova was successful and achieved 1st place in the Year 6 50m Breaststroke. She will be attending Nationals on Saturday 30th November at the London Aquatics Centre. I would like to also mention C. Wayman who achieved 2nd place in the 50m Backstroke, I. Sleap who achieved 2nd place in the 50m Backstroke, the Year 4 Freestyle Relay team who came 3rd and the Year 6 Freestyle Relay team who came 1st (and had a faster relay time than the winners of the Year 6 boys race!).

As a school, St Catherine's came 2nd overall, and 1st for single-gender schools.

Swimming Gala vs. Kew College

On Tuesday 5th, Kew College visited for our Year 3-6 swimming gala. It was a brilliant gala with each race going down to the wire! We had to triple check the scores as it was so close. On this occasion, it wasn't our night, and we fell short by just 3 points (110-113)! However, we witnessed superb swimming by all, and a special well done to the Year 3 swimmers who experienced their first ever St Catherine's gala and handled the relays like professionals. We look forward to the next one and hopefully our next win!

Netball U11 & U10 vs Radnor House

On Wednesday 16th, we hosted Radnor House for two netball matches. Our Year 6 team dominated their game, showing excellent movement in attack, and great defense from GK (A. Tolhurst) and GD (H. Rouse). The won 5 - 1 and L. Flatman was awarded 'Girl of the Match'. Our Year 5 team struggled to keep up with the pace in the first half but did a fantastic job catching up on the scoreboard. Unfortunately, time got the better of them, and they ended the match with a loss of 6 - 3. E. Syverson was awarded 'Girl of the Match' for her shooting. It was an afternoon enjoyed by all and it was, as always, brilliant to see so many parents in attendance supporting the girls.

Swimming Gala vs. Radnor House

We hosted our first gala of the 2019/20 school year against Radnor House and came away with our first win! It was a close gala (49 - 58), with our Year 5 team having to compete against Year 6s, but the girls rose to the challenge and got the job done. The relays were especially exciting and it was great to hear the crowd get behind our swimmers! It was also a special afternoon for some girls who were competing in a gala for the first time. Well done to all involved.

ISA London West Regional Qualifier Gala

On Tuesday 8th October, we took 12 pupils to compete at the ISA London West Qualifying event for swimming. We were competing against 24 other schools at ACS Cobham International School to achieve Top 8 finishes which would enable qualification for the ISA finals. Our swimmers performed outstandingly and all our competitors in individual and medley events achieved a Top 8 finish! We were also ecstatic for our Year 4 and Year 6 relay teams who won first place in the freestyle relay events! We are so proud of the prep school team for their efforts, resilience and determination. Update: All swimmers have qualified through to the regional finals!

Nursery-Year 3 Bounce-a-thon!

The prep school held their first ever sponsored Bounce-a-thon event on Tuesday 24th of September. The goal was for all pupils from Nursery to Year 3 to bounce on rotation for one hour in aid of our two local charities: Momentum and A.R.C. Safe to say the girls smashed it! They soared off the trampolines, even pulling tuck jumps and straddle jumps, and we even caught some brilliant swivel hips. With help from our Year 6's, we recorded a massive total of 6,151 bounces! A big well done to all involved - we cannot wait to run it again next year - and all in the name of charity.

Swimming Gala vs. Harrodian School

What a gloriously hot day for a swimming gala - and at an outdoor pool! We had a great time competing at the Harrodian School in a serious heat wave, and although we were lacking in numbers, we put up a good fight. Our team consisted of girls from Year 4 to Year 8 and they all swam tremendously well. Unfortunately, the Harrodian School came out as winners, but it was a Saturday morning enjoyed by all. We look forward to competing against them in the Autumn Term at St Catherine's.

Swimming Gala vs. Kew College

We ended our gala season with an excellent win over Kew College (120 - 84) thanks to our strong relay teams who clinched it at the end! There were some close races, especially within Year 4 and Year 6, but our girls were confident and extremely encouraging. Thank you to all the parents who consistently support the girls! We appreciate your dedication and the girls love it.

Cricket Fixure vs. Radnor House Y5

Thankfully a break in the weather allowed the Year 5's first Cricket match to take place. It was a great success, beating Radnor House convincingly 252-178. The girls performed really well, putting into practice the skills that they learnt during Cricket Club. Player of the game, nominated by Radnor was J. Warner-Lacey. Well done to all the girls that took part, and thank you to Mrs Oakley for driving us there.

ISA Athletics Results

On Wednesday, we took 17 prep pupils to the ISA Athletics event at Thames Valley Centre. It was an excellent day filled with some brilliant performances from both the prep and senior girls. The day provided great experience for the girls and they all tried their very best in all events. Full results can be found on our site under the ISA Athletics tab. A special mention to J. Warner-Lacey who came 2nd in the Rounders Ball Throw and L. Hoyer who came 2nd in the Long Jump! Well done to all.

Swimming Gala vs. Newland House (Top)

On Tuesday 14th May, we held our second gala against Newland House, this time compromising of three teams per year group which meant it was one of our busiest galas yet! It was extremely close and came down to the relays. All year groups performed outstandingly and we came away with a hard fought win (162-148). Thank you to all the parents for their support - it was a wonderful event for all. A special well done to all our new gala swimmers who have done us proud.

Athletics Fixture vs. Newland House

On Monday 13th May, we held our first Y4-5 mini-competition for Athletics against Newland House. The girls competed in the Long Jump, Rounders Ball Throw, 60m Sprint, 600m and 4x150m Relay. Our Year 4's were up against tough competition and had to dig deep to perform against a strong Newland team. Our Year 5's dominated the track events and performed extremely well overall. It was a close score of 54-51 but St Catherine's were triumphant. We look towards our next Athletics competition against Radnor House before the ISA Athletics in June.

Olympic Athlete Event - Sports for Schools

On Wednesday 8th May, athletes Peter Bakare (Olympic Volleyball player), Steve Frew (Commonwealth Gymnast) and Malakai Mars (Chelsea FC Scholarship) organised a fantastic afternoon filled with exercise and music, as they inspired our prep girls to give it their all! The afternoon started with an engaging assembly by Steve Frew who discussed the power of perseverance and never giving up. Peter Bakare and Malakai Mars then joined in to conduct an energetic fitness circuit which had all the girls moving, dancing and cheering. It was a lively event aimed to inspire students to lead an active and healthy lifestyle, pursue their dreams and raise money for the Sports for Schools foundation and St Catherine's Prep PE Department (UPDATE: we managed to raise £1,031!).

Swimming Gala vs. Newland House (Intermediates)

We started off the Summer Term with an outstanding gala win against Newland House (124-84). It was a brilliant effort by all our swimmers and was a great occasion for those who had never swam in a gala before. Some of our younger swimmers even swam up a year group to cover for any absentees and this provided them with excellent experience. Well done to all involved and thank you to all the parents who came to support.

Harlequins Visit

Year 5 had the fantastic opportunity of being introduced to the basics of Rugby by coaches from Harlequins. With the sun beaming down on them, they learned about ball handling, tempo, moving into space and scoring trys! The coaches were extremely motivating and the girls thoroughly enjoyed trying something different. We look to continue this relationship with Harlequins and offer more opportunities to all in the future.

Y5 & Y6 Hockey Fixture vs. Radnor House

On March 14th, our Y5 and Y6 teams played their first Hockey match of the season. It was also their first time playing on astro which added a new and different dynamic to both games. Y6 were up against tough opponents and unfortunately lost (0-4) however have gained a wealth of experience and are eager for their next game. Y5 started the first half slow, but soon found their feet, and in the second half managed to pull back two goals to secure a draw (2-2). It was a great effort by both teams and leaves them hungry for their first wins!

Richmond Borough Swimming Finals

On March 13th, 5 prep swimmers attended the Richmond Borough Swimming Finals at Pools on the Park. It was an extremely competitive event against all small, large and independent schools in the borough. C. Wayman and our Freestyle relay team made Top 6 in their heats and were through to the finals. Both races were so close with only milliseconds separating the swimmers, but I am proud to announce that C. Wayman achieved a Bronze medal in her Freestyle event, and our relay team also came away with Bronze! A truly brilliant effort by all swimmers.

Swimming Gala vs. Radnor House (Intermediate)

On March 5th, we competed against Radnor House's intermediate squad. It was a wonderful event as it allowed us to swim girls who haven't usually had the opportunity to swim or who haven't competed in a gala before! We also swam our Y4's up in the Y5 races which was excellent experience for them to compete at a higher level. We came away with the win (49 - 35) and are so proud of the girls. Thank you to our Y6 helpers and all those who came to support!

Swimming Gala vs. Newland House (Top)

On February 26th, we were up against a tough Newland House team with their top swimmers competing. It was a close battle but we came out triumphant with a strong score of 108 - 72. Our Year 5 swimmers were unbeatable and we secured important finishes in our relays. A huge well done to the girls who have been swimming consistently well this year. Thank you to all the parents in attendance for your support. Onto the next one!

Richmond Borough Swimming Gala

On February 14th, we took 7 swimmers to the Richmond Borough Swimming Gala at Pools on the Park. It was an event of extremely high calibre but our girls fared well against the other 10 independent schools in competition. Our best results came from C. Wayman who came 3rd in Y5 Freestyle, L. Flatman who came 5th in Y4 Freestyle, 4x1 Freestyle Relay team who came 5th and R. Berkett who came 7th in Butterfly (missed out on Top 6 by a second!). A massive well done to all involved!

Swimming Gala vs. Newland House (Intermediate)

On February 12th, we competed in our swimming gala against Newland House (Intermediates). There was an excellent atmosphere with parents and friends from both schools in attendance. We secured a brilliant win (107 - 53) and look forward to our next gala with Newland House after half-term!

ISA Cross Country

On February 11th, 12 students from the prep school took part at the ISA Cross Country competition. It was a 1900m run across a tricky terrain of wet mud and grass but our girls did very well! Most runners finished in the Top 50 after what was their first ever ISA Cross Country. A special well done to C. Wayman who finished 10th in her race, qualifying her for Nationals, one of the best prep results we've had in years! Well done to all who took part.

Swimming Gala vs. The Mall School

On February 5th, we competed in our first swimming gala of 2019 against independent boys school, The Mall School. It was a superb event with a great atmosphere. Our swimmers performed consistently well across all year groups and we came away with a triumphant win! The final score was 84 - 69 to St Catherine's. A special thank you to all the parents who attended - we appreciated the support!

Netball U11 vs. Newland House Results

On January 29th, our Year 6's had two games against Newland House, a school which we had previously lost to. With only one training session since Christmas, we knew it would be a challenge, but our Netballers rose to the occasion. Both teams came out triumphant with the scores at 8-2 and 4-3 respectively. Newland House awarded player of the match to both G. Carless and Z. Shah. Although it was a chilly afternoon, we are very proud of the Netball played, and there was a lovely display of sportsmanship throughout. Well done!
