ADVENT:
Advent is the season leading up to Christmas. It is a time of preparation when we think about the birth of the baby Jesus. The first Sunday of Advent is the 3rd December. During Advent, we go to church and get ready for the special day on December 25th. In church the priest lights a candle every Sunday, which symbolise Hope, Peace, Joy and Love and on Christmas day, he will light a white candle that symbolises Jesus. In class, we are celebrating Advent with a Jesse Tree. Each day we hang a picture on the tree, which represents a different story from the Old Testament - the final picture is the birth of Jesus in the New Testament. Advent is a very special time.

ODD SOCKS DAY
Odd socks day is all about showing that we are all unique . It is the start of Anti-Bullying week when we make sure that everyone knows that bullying is wrong and that no one should put up with it. On this day, we also celebrated World Kindness Day. We celebrate World kindness day by being kind and not being mean to each other. It is important that kindness is celebrated and is more powerful that bullying. Everyone should stand up to bulling. We encourage people to be themselves and to appreciate that we are all special and unique and that no one should feel bad because they are different. Odd Socks Day was initiated by the Anti-Bully Alliance and also creating safer environments across the country.

Class T's assembly🎉
Class T did an assembly about justice to tell people how to be kind to each other. There was one story about a school and they were in art, they were sketching with charcoal but one child didn't have charcoal so then a child got an idea and she said, ''How about we snap the charcoal in half so everyone can join in.'' This shows that we can all share so that it is fair for everyone. The children performed a liturgical dance about justice. The other years who came to watch the performance really enjoyed it.

Heat oven to 180C/160C fan/gas 4. Grease and line a 20 x 29cm baking tray with baking parchment.
STEP 2
For the filling, zest the lemon half and leave aside for the dough. Peel, core and thinly slice the apples, then squeeze over the juice of the lemon to stop the fruit turning brown. Put the apples in a large pan and add the sugar, 200ml water and cinnamon. Cook for 5 mins, then remove from the heat and leave to cool in the liquid (you’ll need this later).STEP 3
To make the dough, put the flour and baking powder in a food processor or into a large bowl and pulse or stir to combine. Add the butter and mix again until the mixture is sandy. Add the sugar, egg yolks and egg, yogurt, lemon zest and vanilla extract and mix into a dough. Tip it out onto a floured surface. Bring it together with your hands and roll it into a ball.STEP 4
Split the dough in half, wrap one half in cling film and freeze for 1 hr. Roll out the other dough half so that it is big enough to fill the bottom of the lined tray. With the palm of your hand, push the dough about halfway up the sides of the tray until the whole base is covered. Prick the dough with a fork and bake in the oven for about 15 mins until it is golden and lightly springy to the touch.STEP 5
Spoon over the apple filling, with about half the cooking liquid, then set aside.STEP 6
Remove the dough from the freezer and coarsely grate, as you would a block of cheese. Sprinkle the grated dough over the apples and bake for 40-45 mins until it is golden and the topping has cooked through. Leave to cool completely, dust with icing sugar, then cut into squares. Whip the cream until thick, stir in the cinnamon and serve alongside the cake.
christmas fairy cakes-
ingredients
175grams of butter,softend
175grams golden caster sugar
finely grated zest of 1 orange
3 medium free-range eggs
175grams self -raising flour
1 tbsp milk (if necessary)
for decoration
200grams of icing sugar
and silver balls, candle and fondant icing....just to make it look nice!
method
Preheat the oven to 180°C/fan160°C/gas 4. Put about 18 foil paper cases into 2 muffin or fairy cake tins. Put the butter into a bowl. Add the sugar and orange zest, and beat well using a wooden spoon until pale and fluffy. You can use an electric whisk instead of a wooden spoon. This is called creaming.
Crack the eggs into a bowl and whisk well. Gradually add them to the creamed mixture, beating well after each addition. Sift the flour over the mixture and carefully fold in with a metal spoon. The mixture should be soft enough to drop easily from the spoon – this is called dropping consistency. If it isn’t, stir in the milk to soften it slightly.
Fill the paper cases three-quarters full with the mixture. Bake for 15-18 minutes, until golden. Ask an adult to remove the tins from the oven and transfer the cakes to a wire rack. Put the icing sugar into a bowl, add a little hot water to mix to a thick pouring consistency. Spoon the icing onto the cakes and decorate with silver balls, candles and fondant icing. Leave to set. Store in an airtight container.
CHRISTMAS DISCO !
The Christmas Disco took place on Saturday 2nd December in the school hall. It was lots of fun. There were balloons everywhere and a DJ played fabulous music all afternoon. There was lots of candy on display for everyone to eat and noodles and hot dogs in the Wynfrith room. We asked Sara in year 6 what she thought of the event. She said that it was fun because she could hang out with her friends. The disco was an amazing success and the FoSB raised lots of money for our school.
Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving Day is an annual national holiday in the United States and Canada celebrating the harvest and other blessings of the past year. Americans generally believe that their Thanksgiving is modelled on a 1621 harvest feast shared by the English colonists (Pilgrims) of Plymouth and the Wampanoag people. On this special American holiday, most children will get the day off. The date of Thanksgiving is the 23rd of November.

No pens day 😃
No Pens Day was all about thinking of other ways to work together and communicate. On No Pens Day, there was no writing allowed, so all the lessons were problem solving and discussion based. We were lucky enough to go outside and use chalk for maths. This day raises awareness about the 1.9 million children who struggle with talking and understanding words, No Pens Day 2023 took place on Wednesday 29th November 2023 and was really good fun.
