Friday, November 8th
Today in Kindergarten, we:
- Had playtime to begin our day.
- Did our morning routine with Mr. Glynn's class.
- Continued to work on Phonics.
- Had recess.
- Went to the Basilica for our Remembrance Day service. Our Grade 6 friends sat with us and our behaviour was amazing!
- Had lunch and played outside.
- Went to Gym with Mr. Brake.
- Met with our Sibling Groups to make postcards for veterans. We then coloured a Remebrance Day sheet, watched a little video about the poppy, and sang "I Will Sing You Home".
- Sang our goodbye song and had prayer to finish our day.
Thursday, November 7th
Today in Kindergarten we:
- Had playtime to begin our day.
- Did our Morning calendar with Mr. Glynn's class.
- Continued our work on Phonics.
- Had snacktime and playtime afterwards.
- Started work on our, "I can..." mini-books. Students were trying to best to print their words neatly and to add lots of details to their pictures!
Wednesday, November 6th
Today in Kindergarten we:
- Had playtime to begin our day.
- Did our Morning routine with Mr. Glynn's class.
- Had an early snack because of swimming.
- Went for our swimming lessons.
- Had late lunch and a play time until 1:30.
- We coloured pairs of socks in Math and used them with our friends to play matching games.
- Read from our big book in Social Studies. Our story was, "We are all Special", and used "I can..." statements to talk about different things boys and girls can do. We will make our own books in the coming days.
- Read, "The Great Acorn Mystery", as our read-aloud.
- Listened to our end of day song and said our closing prayer to end our day.
Tuesday, November 5th
Today in Kindergarten we:
- Had playtime to begin our day.
- Did our Morning calendar with Mr. Glynn's class.
- Continued working on Phonics. While we are working in our groups, others students are completing centres to help with their letter work.
- Had snacktime and playtime.
- Continued working on our number sense in Math. We practicing our subitizing with a friend by rolling a dice back and forth, and then worked on our number formation on a sheet.
- Had lunchtime and outside playtime. With the beautiful weather, we stayed outside until 1:30.
- Had Music with Ms. Gatherall.
- Read, "Leaves, Leaves, Everywhere" for read aloud.
- Listened to our end of day song and said our closing prayer to end our day.
Monday, November 4th
Today in Kindergarten we:
- Had playtime to begin our day.
- Did our Morning calendar with Mr. Glynn's class.
- Began our new units in Phonics. We are doing the new work in small groups, with students working on different activities depending on where they are with specific letters. We will be changing groups up fairly consistently for different activities.
- Had snack-time.
- Had Choir with Ms. Gatherall.
- Continued working on classifying objects in Math. Today, we made groups of items and discussed what one item could be excluded and why. After this, students looked at an image, and coloured everything they believed fit with the image.
- Had lunch and outside playtime. We stayed out until 1:30.
- Had Gym with Mr. Brake.
- Read, "Arthur's New Puppy", for read aloud.
- Had a sharing circle. Our question today was, "What type of pet would you like to have and why?"

Friday, November 1st
Today in Kindergarten we:
- Had playtime to begin our day.
- Did our Morning calendar with Mr. Glynn's class.
- Had Phys. Ed. with Mr. Brake
- Had snacktime and a playtime.
- Continued working with sorting items in Math. We did a few activities to help us look for ways items are alike and different. After we did this, we continued working on counting and printing the numbers 1 to 5.
- Had lunch and play time outside. We stayed outside till 1:25 enjoying the warm, but windy, weather!
- Listened to some French songs. We sang about greetings, the months of the year, and the days of the week!
- Played some Alphabet bingo.
- Read, "The Falling Leaves and the Scarecrow" for read-aloud. It had a great message about being a good friend!
- Listened to our end of day song and said our closing prayer to end our day.
Thursday, October 31st
Today in Kindergarten we:
- Had playtime to begin our day.
- Did our Morning calendar with Mr. Glynn's Class.
- Carved our class pumpkins that we got from Brother's Joe patch!!
- Played outside after snack-time since there wasn't going to be outside play at lunch.
- Read 2 Halloween stories before lunch.
- Had our pizza lunch, thanks again to the Cahills!
- Got dress for Halloween, we all looked great in our costumes!!!
- Did 4 stations of Halloween activities with our Kg and Gr. 1 friends.
- In our room we did a directed drawing Art activity!
- In Mr. Glynn's room we read, "The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin" and made our own unique pumpkins
- In Ms. Seviour's room we played Halloween Bingo
- In Ms. Samuelson's room we had a dance party
- Shared some treats people brought in.
- Had some cake and jello.
- Cleaned up our classroom to end our day!
Wednesday, October 30th
Today in Kindergarten we:
- Had playtime to begin our day.
- Did our Morning calendar with Mr. Glynn's class.
- Had an early snack-time to get ready for swimming.
- Had swimming. We continue to do a fantastic job representing ourselves and our school from when we leave to when we return from swimming.
- Had our late lunch and outside playtime.
- Had Gym with Mr. Brake.
- Continued working on sorting and classifying in Math. We took a set of items and found different ways we could sort them and then we did a sheet to help reinforce our learning.
- Read, "The Night Before Halloween", as our read-aloud.
- Listened to our end of day song and said our closing prayer to end our day.
Tuesday, October 29th
Today in Kindergarten we:
- Had playtime to begin our day.
- Did our Morning routine with Mr. Glynn's class
- Talked about healthy food giving us energy for a Health lesson. We did a little obstacle course around the classrooms, talked about the reasons we need energy, and talked about something we like that to do that requires energy.
- Had snack-time and playtime.
- Did 2 Halloween Art activities between Recess and Lunch
- Had Lunch and outisde play.
- Finished one of our Art projects after lunch.
- Had Music with Ms. Gatherall.
- Read, "Creepy Pair of Underwear", for Read-Aloud. It was recommended by Ms. Noftall in Gr. 5!
- Had a sharing circle. Our question today was, "What are you dressing up as for Halloween?".

Monday, October 28th
Today in Kindergarten, we:
- Visited Brother Joe's Pumpkin Patch. We had so much fun finding the painted rocks that Zoe's nan decorated for us. We had a snack and saw the pumpkins and vegetables growing in the garden.
- We had some playtime when we arrived back at school.
- We had lunch and outside play.
- Our Buddy Readers visited and did a Halloween craft with us.
- We listened to "The Pumpkin Patch Parable" and talked about letting our light shine.
- Did a sharing circle. Our question was, "What was your favourite thing about visiting Brother Joe's pumpkin patch?"

Friday, October 25th
Today in Kindergarten we:
- Had playtime to begin our day. I had students read their baggie books to me while everyone played.
- Did our Morning routine.
- Did another round of centres.
- Had snack-time and free-play. I did some informal letter-sound assessments as students played.
- Starting working on sorting and classifying in Math. Students played some games with friends and we talked about how we can sort the same objects in different ways.
- Had lunch and outside playtime. Since it was such a beautiful day we stayed outside till 1:30.
- Had Music
- Read a Halloween story for read-aloud.
- Did a sharing circle. Our question was, "If you could have a treat right now, what would you pick?"

Thursday, October 24th
Today in Kindergarten we:
- Had playtime to begin our day. I did some Math assessments with students while everyone played to see how we are doing with our numbers early in the year.

- Had Choir with Ms. Gatherall.
- Had some free-play. I continued working individually with students on some Math while playtime was happening.
- Had lunch and outside play. We stayed outside till 1:15 today.

Wednesday, October 23rd
Today in Kindergarten we:
- Had playtime to begin our day. While students played, I had baggie books read to me.
- Did our morning routine.
- Had an early snacktime.
- Went swimming.
- Had lunch and outside playtime. We stayed outside till about 1:20 today.
- Worked on centres today. We will be incorporating them more into our learning environments over the next few weeks and need to practice how to properly use them.
- Had a short playtime after centres.
- Read, "The Berenstain Bears: Trick or Treat" as our read-aloud.

Tuesday, October 22nd
Today in Kindergarten we:
- Had playtime to begin our day.
- Did our morning routine.
- Talked about names in Social Studies. We did a KWL chart as a whole group, and talked a little bit about our our names!
- Had snacktime and free play afterwards.
- Did some practice counting and a couple of sheets to help us continue our number recognition and formation. t.
- Had Lunch and playtime on the field.
- Did an Art Project using leaves.
- Had Gym
- Finished our Art Project. They are hanging outside the classroom for everyone to see!

Monday, October 21st
Today in Kindergarten we:
- Had playtime to begin our day.
- Did our morning routine
- Read a poem about Pumpkins. We pointed out some high-frequency words and looked at repeating words in it.
- Did a Religion activity about all the beautiful colours that God placed in nature and different things that match each colour.
- Had snacktime and free play.
- Continued working on numbers 1 to 10 in Math. We sang, "5 Little Ducks" together, and after that we used a dice to roll a number and then traced or wrote the number we rolled.
- Had lunch and playtime outside.
- Had Gym with Mr. Brake.
- Had our first lockdown drill. Mr. Glynn and I spoke with the classes first, and fielded questions. Afterwards, Ms. Mallay did the drill on the PA.
- We gave some free play to end the day.
Friday, October 18th
Today in Kindergarten we:
- Had playtime to begin our day.
- Had our pictures done!
- Did our morning calendar and then the letter Yy.
- Had snack time and some free play.
- Did the letter Zz in Phonics.
- Had lunch and playtime in the classroom.
- Continued working on our number sense in Math. We worked on counting items when they were arranged differently again today.
- Had Music with Ms. Gatherall.
- Read a story about different sized pumpkins for read-aloud.
- Had sharing circle. Our question today was, what size/shape of pumpkin would you be.
- Did our end of day song and closing prayer to end our week.
Thursday, October 17th
Today in Kindergarten we:
- Had playtime to begin our day.
- Did our Morning calendar with Mr. Glynn's class.
- Did the letter Ww in Phonics.
- Had snacktime and playtime afterwards. During playtime I did some assessments of Upper Case an Lower Case letter recognition.
- Continued working on our number sense in Math. We played a game where students had to look at a box with a number of dots in it. They had to try and name the number of dots without counting (subitizing) and realized that the same number of dots could be presented in different ways. Understanding that moving items around doesn't change the count is an expected outcome in Kindergarten .
- Had lunch and outside playtime.
- Had Buddy Reading with our Gr. 4 friends.
- Did the letter Xx in Phonics. We are doing two letters today and tomorrow to finish up the first trip through an alphabet at the end of the week.
- Went outside to play from 2:05 to 2:30 since it was such a beautiful day. There was a great game of freeze tag and a wonderful leaf pile made and jumped in.
- Read, "The Biggest Pumpkin Ever" as a read-aloud story to end our day.
Wednesday, October 16th
Today in Kindergarten we:
- Had playtime to begin our day.
- Did our Morning calendar with Mr. Glynn's. We continued with our new calendar routine today. Our Topic Jar question today was, "If you were only allowed to colour with one coloured marker, what colour would you pick and why?"
- Had our early Snacktime.
- Went swimming. Today was a free swim with instructors in the pool.
- Had Lunch when we got back. We began around eating at 12:20 and played till 1:15.
- Read, "Click Clack Boo", for our read-aloud.
- Had Music with Ms. Gatherall.
- Did a Science experiment.
Tuesday, October 15th
Today in Kindergarten we:
- Had playtime to begin our day.
- Did our Morning calendar with Mr. Glynn's class. We began a new calendar routine today. We:
- Listened to our usual Good Morning Song.
- Listened to a song that counted to 100.
- Played a game with a friend, naming what number comes before and after another number.
- Shared with a partner about a question in a Topic Jar. Today's question was, "Where's your favourite place to play?"
- Listened to a song about the 5 Ws
- Asked questions to guess what item was in a Mystery Bag!
- Began our work on the letter Vv. We listened to our Vv story and then practiced making the /v/ sound. The /v/ and /b/ sounds are often mixed up and having students focus on their lips can help with this.
- Had Snacktime.
- Had Choir with Ms. Gatherall.
- Finished our work on the letter Vv. Students completed their worksheet practicing tracing and printing the letter.
- Had Lunch and outdoor playtime. We stayed outside till about 1:10.
- Played a Math game with a friend. We had a number line with 1-5 on it and had to cover up a number. Our friend had to guess what number was hidden and explain how they knew. Having your child take the time to explain their thinking is the quickest and easiest way to deepen their learning, particularly in Math. They often instinctively know an answer; however, having to explaining forces them into some higher order thinking moments.

Friday, October 11th
Today in Kindergarten we:
- Had playtime to begin our day.
- Did our Morning Calendar with Mr. Glynn's class. We will be switching our calendar up on Tuesday to incorporate some different songs and activities.
- Had Music with Ms. Gatherall.
- Had snacktime.
- Had our first sibling groups of the year. Kindergartens are pairs with the Gr. 6 students and did a variety of activities about gratitude. We worked together till just after 12. After this, all the sibling pairs sat and ate together, so our lunchtime ran a little longer than usual.
- Played outside on the field till about 1:25.
- Finished a Thanksgiving Day card that we are bringing home today.
- Had a little free time after our activity.
- Read, "Dot the Fire Dog" for read aloud.
- Had a Sharing Circle. Today's question was, "What's something we did this week that you enjoyed?"
- Listened to our end of day song and said our prayer to close our week.
Thursday, October 10th
Today in Kindergarten we:
- Had a little snack before we got ready to go to, "Matilda".
- Went to Matilda. Students were extremely well-behaved. Kudos to our young theatre goers!!!
- Had a late lunch when we got back around 12:35.
- Went outside to play at 1:10.
- Had Gym with Mr. Brake at 1:40.
- Read, "The Biggest Leaf Pile" For Read-Aloud.
- Listened to our End of Day song and said our closing prayer to end the day.
Wednesday, October 9th
Today in Kindergarten we:
- Had playtime to begin our day. During playtime, I had those students who returned a baggie book read them for me and I switched books for a new one.
- Did our morning calendar with Mr. Glynn's class.
- Had an early snacktime because of swimming.
- Went swimming. Students did a great job getting ready going and returning from swimming again!
- Had our lunch.
- Had Gym with Mr. Brake.
- Had a playtime. While students were playing, we began an Art activity that required 1-on-1 time with a teacher to help develop. Thanks to substitute teacher, Ms. Morris, who gave up a prep to come and help out!
- Read, "Franklin's Thanksgiving", for read-aloud.
- Had a Sharing Circle. Our question today was, "What are you doing this Thanksgiving weekend?"

Tuesday, October 8th
Today in Kindergarten we:
- Had playtime to begin our day.
- Did our morning calendar with Mr. Glynn's class.
- Did our work on the letter Uu. We read a story, came up with items that can begin with the sound /u/ and did our writing sheet. We will have a break from letters for the next 2 days because of the our busy mornings.
- Had snacktime and free play.
- Continued practicing counting from 0 to 5 and from 5 to 0 in Math. We played a game with our math partner, and then sang, "5 Little Monkeys" while making snap cube towers to match the number we were on in the story.
- Had lunchtime and extended outside play.
- Had Music with Ms. Gatherall.
- Read another Fire Prevention story for Read Aloud.
- Listened to our end of day song and said prayer to close our day.
Monday, October 7th
Today in Kindergarten we:
- Went outside to play to begin our day because of the beautiful weather!
- Did our morning calendar with Mr. Glynn's class.
- Began our letter Tt work. We listened to a story, then talked about different words that made the /t/ sound. We didn't have time to do our sheet before snacktime.
- Had snacktime and some freeplay.
- Continued doing some work around subitizing (recognizing number groups at a glance) in Math. We played a couple of games with our friends, did some practice with 5-frames, and finally did a sheet to practice printing our numbers.
- Had our lunch and outside playtime.
- Did buddy reading with our Gr. 4 friends.
- Did our letter Tt printing sheet.
- Read, "Poinsetta and the Firefighters."
Friday, October 4th
Today in Kindergarten we:
- Had playtime to begin our day.
- Did our Morning routine and calendar with Mr. Glynn's class.
- Did the letter Ss and the /s/ sound. We read a story about a snail making a silly sandwich, then found different Ss items. Finally, we did our letter Ss sheet to practice making our letter.
- Had snack time and some free-play.
- Continued working on the numbers 1 to 5 in Math. We played some games, talked about ZERO, and then did a counting sheet.
- Had Lunch, and again stayed outside to play for some extra time since it was so nice out.
- Had Music with Ms. Gatherall.
- Read, "At the Firehouse", for our read-aloud. Next week is Fire Prevention Week!

Thursday, October 3rd
Today in Kindergarten we:

- Had an early snack time.
- Had Kindergarten Choir right after Recess.
- Had a free-play time after Choir.
- Had lunch and outdoor play. We stayed out longer than usual since we haven't gotten outside much in the last week.

- Had our sharing circle. Today's question was, "If you were a little cloud what would you like to turn into?" We did our best job all year listening to our friends in circle!

Wednesday, October 2nd
Today In Kindergarten we:
- Had playtime to begin our day.
- Did our Morning routine and calendar with Mr. Glynn's class. We were quite excited today with our first swimming lessons coming up!
- Had an early snack time.
- Went swimming. Students did a great job getting ready to go swimming, during lessons, and getting ready to leave. A few notes:
- Many children wear their swim suit under their Gym clothes in the morning, so getting ready to go to the pool is quicker.
- Lunch will usually get started by 12:15 on swim days. We do an extended eating and playtime to ensure they have ample time for both.
- Please remember our policy is to NOT have students have Tim Horton's treats after swimming.
- Played till about 1:30 to help get out some of the excited energy from swimming!
- Did the letter Qq in Phonics. We read a story about a Quiet Quail and then practiced our sound.
- Finished up our Wall of Fame activity!
- Read, "Fall Leaves Fall" for our read aloud.
- Had our sharing circle. Our question today was, "What is something you like to do in the Fall?"

Tuesday, October 1st
Today in Kindergarten we:
- Had playtime to begin our day.
- Did our Morning routine and calendar with Mr. Glynn's class.
- Did the letter Pp and the /p/ sound.
- Had snack time and more free-play.
- Continued working on comparing numbers in Math. We did some work as a whole group, and then students completed a sheet comparing gumballs in machines.
- Got back to work on our Wall of Fame just inside the classroom door. Students drew pictures of 2 things they like and wrote their birthdays. They also had more practice cutting. The Wall will be all finished by tomorrow, hopefully!
- Had Gym with Mr. Brake.
- Read, "Rosie Revere: Engineer" for read-aloud.
- Had sharing circle. Our question today was, "If you could build anything, what would it be?"

Monday, September 30th
Today in Kindergarten we:
- Had playtime to begin our day.
- Did our Morning routine and calendar with Mr. Glynn's class.
- Worked on the letter Oo.
- Had Snacktime and free play afterwards.
- Played some games in Math using 5-frames. After this, we did some work comparing set of objects against each other, to see which group had more.
- Had lunch and inside playtime.
- Had our Walk-a-Thon in the afternoon at Bannerman Park. Students had a great time!!!
Friday, September 27th
Today in Kindergarten we:
- started our day with some play
- Had our morning meeting with Mr. Glynn's class
- We worked on the letter Nn.
- Had our snack and some free play afterwards
- Reviewed 5 Little Monkeys and practiced count to 5 and back again. We completed 2 sheets to go along with this activity.
- We spent some time exploring the other classroom this afternoon and finishing our Math sheets from this morning.
- Had Music with Ms. Gatherall
- We were joined by Mr. Glynn's class for our story. Today we heard "The Wonky Donkey" and we even listened to the song afterwards.
- Said our prayer and goodbye song to end our day.
Thursday, September 26th
Today in Kindergarten we:
- Played before announcements.
- Had our morning meeting with Mr. Glynn's class.
- Worked on the letter Mm.
- Had an early recess today.
- Went on the bus to St. Pius X to celebrate the Jesuit Martyrs Mass with the entire school.
- Had lunch
- Our Buddy Readers visited
- We had some extra playtime since everyone was so good at mass.
- Heard a story, did our goodbye song, and sang our prayer to end the day.
Wednesday, September 25th
Today in Kindergarten we:
- Played before announcements.
- Had our morning calendar and routine with Mr. Glynn's class.
- Did the letter Ll in Phonics. We listened to a song about the letter Ll.
- Had our Snack time and playtime afterwards.
- Continued working on the numbers 1-5 in Math. Today, we played some more games with 5 frames, sang "5 Little Monkeys", and started practicing our counting backwards. We finished by completing a sheet to practice our counting and printing our numbers again.
- Had our lunch and playtime. We played inside today because of the weather.
- Starting working on our first Social Studies unit. We are considering identity and started a bulletin board with our pictures on it. Today, students coloured their hair colour, their eye colour, and their favourite colour. We will continue with it the next few days.
- Had Music with Ms. Gatherall.
- Read, "Jillian Jiggs", for our afternoon read-aloud.
- Listened to our Goodbye Song and said our Ending Prayer to close the day.
Tuesday, September 24th
Today in Kindergarten we:
- Had playtime before announcements.
- Did our morning calendar and routine with Mr. Glynn's class.
- Did our Phonics work on the letter Kk. We also practiced counting the parts (syllables) of some words. Students struggled a little making the "Kk", especially making a lower-case different than an upper case.
- Had our snack time.
- Had Choir with Ms. Gatherall.
- Had free playtime when we returned from Choir.
- Had lunch and playtime outside.
- Had Gym with Mr. Brake.
- Read, "A Color of His Own", for read-aloud. It is a book that will help us as we start discussing identity tomorrow in Social Studies.
- Had our sharing circle. Today's question was, if you could be any colour, what would you be?
- Listened to our end of day song and said our Prayer.
Monday, September 23rd
Today in Kindergarten we:
- Had playtime before announcements.
- Did our morning routine with Mr. Glynn's Class.
- Had Music with Ms. Gatherall.
- Had our Snack and playtime.
- Mr. Martino popped by for a moment and enjoyed reading a book to some of the students.
- Continued working on our alphabet with the letter Jj.
- We had an extended playtime after lunch.
- We worked on subitizing (recognizing numbers at a glance) groups of 1 to 5 items.
- We read "Clifford's First Autumn" and did a sharing circle. Today we asked students to tell us something they did over the weekend.
Friday, September 20th
Today in Kindergarten we:
- Had playtime before announcements.
- Went outside and created letters and numbers with things we found in nature. Students did a great job staying on task and demonstrating their learning in creative ways!
- Did our Morning calendar and songs with Mr. Glynn's class.
- Had our snack time and free play. There has been a lot of interest in the board games in the last few days.
- Had our President, Ms. Bennett come and read to the students. She read, "The Good Egg", and talked about the importance of self-care and accepting mistakes as part of life.
- We had another fire drill and did an amazing job getting to our location and remaining quiet.
- Had lunch and an extended outside playtime. The Gr. 6's continue to be unbelievable with them all!
- Had Gym with Mr. Brake.
- Read, "What Does it Mean to Be Kind", for our read-aloud.
- Our sharing circle question was, "What is something you can do to be kind?" There were some amazing answers, a highlight being, "I can be kind by pushing someone in a wheelchair."
Thursday, September 19th
Today in Kindergarten we:
- Had playtime at the beginning of our day.
- Had a fire drill. Students were excellent again!
- Did our morning songs and calendar with Mr. Glynn's class.
- Worked on the letter "Ii" in Phonics.
- Had playtime after Recess.
- Continued our work on the numbers 1 to 5. Students had individual white-boards and had to print the number that I represented to them in some way. After this, we practiced our printing of the numbers 3, 4, and 5.
- Had lunchtime and playtime outside.
- Had Gym with Mr. Brake.
- Did our rainbow write sheet for Math, because we didn't get to it in the morning.
