Agenda Notes

Here you will find homework and other important messages and reminders. Please check and initial your child's agenda daily to see what is expected for the next day.

Hello families,

I wanted to send along some home learning ideas, resources and activities to use over the Easter break, if you wish. Please note that these are optional and do not need to be submitted for feedback, grading or viewing. I kindly ask that students do not go ahead in any of the workbooks, textbooks or handouts that were sent home from school. We will be continuing with these after the Easter break.

Below are some activities for your child (see email for all attachments):

Easter Themed Activities:

On our Moodle page, there is a folder titled “Easter Themed Activities” in the “Learning Resources” section. Here, you will find a variety of activities including literacy, math games, puzzles, word activities and other fun Easter worksheets.

Journal Writing:

Students can write daily in a journal or exercise book. Give them a journal prompt or question, or students can write freely about a topic of their choice. Here is a list of creative writing prompts: https://thinkwritten.com/writing-prompts-for-kids/

Reading:

Students can still read in a variety of ways over the Easter break. This may include reading on their own, reading to someone, being read to by a family member, using online apps/websites such as Epic, Storyline Online etc.

Spelling/Word Work:

I have attached our Grade 3 sight words, along with various activity packages for practicing spelling and some suggestions for fun word activities to do around the house or outside. Students can choose any of the activities they like to work on their words. I find giving them lots of choice is more motivating! Here’s a tip: cut up the sight words and/or pick a few words to work on every day or week. Some other hands on activities that are always fun for kids (if you have the materials) include making words with Bananagrams, Scrabble or Boggle, playing Hangman or creating words out of Play Doh/magnetic letters.

Science:

There are lots of STEM activities or science experiments that can be found online. YouTube has some great videos to provide ideas. Students seemed to have a great time with their marble runs so hopefully you can find others that inspire you! Here are some ideas: https://thestemlaboratory.com/stem-activities-for-kids/

Art:

We use Kids Art Hub on YouTube in our class for guided drawing. There are several Easter and Spring projects available on Kids Art Hub. Pinterest also has lots of craft ideas!

Math:

Play any of the math games/activities that were assigned on Moodle. These can be found in the workbook or on the handouts provided in Weeks 1-3. There are also Math related activities in the “Easter Themed Activities” folder mentioned above. I have attached a few more addition/subtraction games. If you have a deck of cards, there are tons of math card games that can be found online. Students might remember learning Snap 10 and Starfall in school.

Extra:

Our Moodle page has a variety of “Mindfulness” colouring sheets and Tech Free Learning Ideas (found under the Learning Materials section on Moodle). I have also provided an extensive list of online educational resources such as apps/websites organized by subject area (found under the “Educational Resources” section on Moodle).

Wishing you a wonderful Easter break with your family! I look forward to connecting with everyone after the break.

Take care and stay safe.

Hilary
