Newfoundland Studies 2205

Students are asked to read Section 4.1 of Unit 4: Influence of the Land, pages 286-299. This reading speaks to the Diversification of the Economy and effects thereupon as well as some of the disasters that have visited Newfoundland and Labrador in the 1800s.

I would like students to do questions #2 a, b, and c on page 299. #3 should also be done with special consideration of last weeks storm and the efforts the city and province have undergone to normalize the situation. This deserves some development- think paragraph with full sentences, not point form. Finally, students should complete #4. Why is there experience important and valid of historical events (ie #Snowmageddon2020)?

For the students enrolled in Newfoundland and Labrador Studies 2205, my sincere apologies. This course has not received the attention it needs. Please find below a detailed listing of readings and assignments.

Please read Sections 2.3 and 2.4 (pages. 120-133). I would like students to do questions #3 and #4 on page 131. Also, after reading the Case Study on pages 132-133 I would encourage students to do question #2 as it draws in both people's shadow cast across ecologies, and how we might try to make amends.

Students should then read Sections 2.5 (pages 134-143) and do question #2 a, b, and c. This is particularly interesting as it looks at and grapples with the Codfishery from the angle of Economics and Society. Finally, Unit 2 is concluded by reading Sections 2.7 and 2.8. I would like students to do questions #1 and #2 on page 155.
