Dear Parents/Carers,
We hope this newsletter finds you well and that everyone is enjoying the much needed glimmer of Spring and sunshine.
Mrs Merrell
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Mrs Merrell and her family on the safe arrival of their beautiful baby girl, Harriet. Harriet arrived on Tuesday 4th March and is settling in well to a truly wonderful family.
Pupil interviews
We began the first week back with the teachers and pupils having the opportunity to get together for some 1:1 time in their pupil interviews. This is a great opportunity for each child to spend some time with their class teacher, looking through their work, celebrating their progress, discussing areas of need and having the opportunity to have a general well-being chat. The teachers are always so grateful of this opportunity and talk so highly of its impact. Please talk to your class teacher at parents evening if you have any questions about this.
Assessment week
This week, the children in most classes have been taking part in assessments. The assessments are led to ensure children do not feel anxious or pressured and see the outcome as an opportunity to both celebrate and determine what they need to do to progress further. Class teachers will discuss these with you at parents evening and will also meet with the Senior leadership team to discuss the progress of each individual child before Easter.
Parent online safety workshop
Thank you to those parents who attended the online safety workshop last week, led by Mrs Heatley. We hope you found this beneficial and took some nuggets of information you could share with your children and others. Please see the link below for the presentation that Mrs Heatley used, this can be found on our school website. Online safety is a huge part of the world our children are navigating, constant discussions around this is the most beneficial way to help our children stay safe.
Parent E-Safety Workshop Presentation
Ash Wednesday
Thank you to Fr Kevin for inviting the community to Our Lady Of Walsingham to celebrate Ash Wednesday. As always the children behaved impeccably and took part with real reverence.
Science week
Next week the school will take part in various workshops and experiments to celebrate 'Science week'. Mrs Barnes, our science lead, and the class teachers have prepared some exciting activities for the children to take part in. Pictures and information from this will be shared in the next newsletter. As part of science week, the school has booked science workshops for classes 1-6. We ask that each child makes a contribution to these workshops of £2.00. This can be paid for through Arbor. Thank you.
Finally we wish you all a wonderful weekend, in what we hope will be more sunshine!
Best Wishes
Mrs Lavelle-Murphy & Mrs Alger

SPORTS NEWS
Some of our Year 3 and Year 4 children represented the school at a Rapid-Fire Cricket competition against other schools in St Albans and surrounding areas. They showed excellent team spirit and worked very well together.
They came 4th out of 6 but recorded one of the highest individual scores of the days in one of their matches. Well done to all those who took part!
NETBALL NEWS
The netball team had a tough match last week against the mighty Garden Fields. We lost 16-4 but our team played a really strong game and have a lot to be proud of.
A huge well done to Esme, who won Player of the Match, Alex, Delilah, Beatrice, Hugo and Calvin, plus Lucia and Evie who held their own in a really tough game. Well done team!
FOOTBALL NEWS
The St Bernadette football team have tasted victory twice since returning to school after half term. Last week, they won 3-1 against Park Street School. 2 goals from Lucien and 1 from Arthur had the team on course for victory. They conceded a goal late on but showed brilliant teamwork and togetherness to prevent Park Street from scoring anymore. Some excellent goal saving blocks from Calvin earned him player of the match and deservedly so.
This week, they won 3-0. This time they beat St Michaels. It was a hard-fought battle between the two teams, but this didn't prevent them from taking home 3 points. A goal each, in the first half from Lucien and Luke had them on their way to victory at half time. The momentum continued with the team after half time and Leighton scored the 3rd. A big shout out to Aaron and Leighton from Year 5 who have stepped up numerous times this year to represent the school. Arthur caused the St Michaels defence a lot of problems throughout the game, and he came away with a deserved player of the match award.
The school football team has one more game on Wednesday 12th March which could determine whether they win the league or not!
