Dear Parents/Carers,
This week has been an exciting week as we joined with Year 6 and Reception children and their families to welcome the new class of 2025 into our school community. It was a special morning where we had the opportunity to be together and to wish our Reception class well on the start of their journey here at St Bernadette.
We have also spent time this week in the classrooms and have really been impressed with the positive attitude displayed by the children with their learning. It is lovely to see that key routines are already put in place and embedded into the school day.
We met as a governing body this week and discussed the school's key targets for the year, which very much focus on progress for all children.
Embed Catholic Social Teaching across the school so that pupils are given opportunities to be proactive in finding ways to respond to the needs of others
To ensure pupils are challenged across the curriculum
To increase the progress for pupils who are not yet achieving the age-related standard
Provide specific feedback so that all pupils understand what they need to do to make progress across all areas of the curriculum
To develop middle leaders to be key drivers of progress within their subject area
As a school, we are continuously looking to recruit new governors to our team. We currently have space for a parent governor and foundation governors. If this is something that you think you may be interested in then please contact the school office for more information.
This half term in school we are focusing on 'Care for Creation' as one of the Catholic Social teaching principles. In assemblies we have been discussing ways the children can care for creation and the children have come up with an extensive list of ideas, ranging from helping parents with chores, planting new wildlife, litter picking to being kinder with their brothers and sisters. If you notice your children being particularly caring for creation at home, please do let us know by emailing the school office so we can reward them in school!
Finally, we would like to share some exciting news that Mrs Smith, who you may have known previously as Mrs Bowers (Year 2 Classroom Assistant), is pregnant and is expecting a beautiful baby in March next year. Congratulations and we are very excited for a new precious creation to be joining our St Bernadette family.

So far, the children have enjoyed decorating their gardening aprons and planning for different seasons. Watch this space as some of outdoor planters near the KS2 classrooms become planters for the gardening club.

🏅 What We Worked On Last Week
This week our students focused on:
Respect as our life tool - we told the children a story about respect using the great Muhammed Ali and we also asked the children what respect meant to them.
Stance and Guard as our boxing skill - stance and guard is the foundations of all boxers and the most important chapter of any boxers development.
These activities help improve confidence, coordination, discipline, and fitness in a fun, safe environment.
⭐ Boxer of the Week
Congratulations to Rogue Guthrie (Y3) for showing outstanding respect and impeccable boxing stance and guard skills. Great job representing your school and inspiring others!
