St Bernadette Catholic Primary School

Message from the

Co-headteachers

Dear Parents and Carers,

We trust you all had a wonderful half term break and hopefully managed to make some time for yourselves also.  The children have been excited to share all their half term adventures with staff and one another.

We are going to start the newsletter by mentioning the word, 'CHRISTMAS!' Yes, we are starting to think about that truly wonderful time of the year and with that in mind, organise our school Christmas fair.  The Christmas fair will be held at school on Friday 15th December 2023 from 3.30pm - 5.30pm.  Please save the date and come and join us with your family and friends for a truly festive afternoon.  A flyer will be shared with you shortly, that highlights the stalls and events that will take place on the day. In order to help prepare for the Christmas fair, we would like to invite you to 'Bring a Bottle' on the next non uniform day, scheduled for Friday 8th December. If you have something you could donate to the raffle, or if you can offer any support to the FABs by running a stall, please contact the school office ASAP.  The more helpers we have on the day, the more successful the fair will be.

Finally, I would like to draw your attention to the beautiful prayer card below, devoted to the life of Fr Dominic.  Myself & Mrs Reilly, along with some other staff members, attended his requiem mass in the half term and were blown away with the number of people who attended.  It was testimony to how highly he was thought of within the community and we would like to continue to keep his family and friends in our prayers as we enter this month of remembrance.

Wishing you all a safe and exciting weekend of fireworks

Kind regards

Mrs Lavelle-Murphy & Mrs Reilly

Harvest Festival

Well done to all the children for taking part in our Harvest Festival this week. It was lovely to welcome in our wiser members of the community.

Harvest Food Collection

Thank you to all our families for your donations to the local food bank. We delivered all the items today and we're sure they will make a fantastic difference to our community.

SEND Coffee Morning

The next SEND coffee morning will be held on Friday 24th  November from 9am-10am. This is a good opportunity to meet other families and Mrs. Mills and have a chat. Everybody is welcome!

Netball Victory!

The Lions remain undefeated after today's friendly against Prae Wood, ending in a 6-2 win. Tia was awarded Player of the Match so she will Captain the next match. Excellent goals from Florence and Valentino - and a great performance throughout.

The Wolves kicked off their first match together as a team with a 4-3 win, with stunning goals from Alex and Erin. It was great to see their confidence emerging as the match continued. Delilah was awarded Player of the Match, which is fantastic as she only joined at the start of the school year.

Governing Body Vacancies

We currently have vacancies on our governing body, including a foundation governor and parent governor role and are seeking nominations for enthusiastic and committed parents or carers to join the governing board.

The core functions of the governing board are:

The governing board’s main tasks are to support the school, ensure that all pupils receive a high quality education and plan for future development and improvement. Parent governors are welcomed as valued members of the team and play a vital role in ensuring the governing board is aware of the views of parents and the local community.

Governors currently meet as a board six times a year and meetings usually start at 6.00pm and are finished around 8.00pm. All meetings are held at the school or virtually. If needed, additional meetings will be planned with, unless there are extraordinary circumstances, seven days’ notice given. Governors are occasionally required to visit the school during the day for monitoring visits and are encouraged to support school events, where possible. We offer new governors a comprehensive and supportive induction, and each new governor is assigned a mentor. Full training for the role is also available.

If you are interested in becoming a governor or you have any questions about the role please do not hesitate the chair of governors; email addresses are Catherine Turton-Ryz at gov.turton-ryz@stbernadette.herts.sch.uk or Jane Williams as gov.williams@stbernadette.herts.sch.uk .

Wider family members would also be considered and we would really appreciate any support possible.

Young Saints Ambassadors

Dear parents,

We are writing to you in our role as Young Saints Ambassadors for St Bernadette School to encourage all children in our school who enjoy football to sign up as a Young Saint. The Young Saints membership is free of charge and only takes a couple of minutes. Simply go to the St Albans City website https://www.stalbanscityfc.com and then go to the ‘Tickets’ tab, where you will find the place to sign up for Young Saints memberships.

If you like the idea of going to the occasional football match, the Young Saints membership will give a significant discount for any adult accompanying their child, or grandchild, to a St Albans City home match. There is no obligation to attend matches if you sign up, but there are obvious benefits if you would like to go.

Also, through signing up as a Young Saint, children will automatically be entered into draws over the course of the season and may win a signed shirt, a signed football, or even the opportunity to be a mascot for one of the St Albans City home matches.

Finally, the schools that sign up the greatest number of Young Saints will get the opportunity to play on the St Albans City pitch (Clarence Park) at the end of the season. We’d love the opportunity for our football team at St Bernadette School to play at Clarence Park. So please, if you like football, please sign up. As we said, becoming a Young Saints member is free of charge and only takes a few minutes to register.

Many thanks,

Megan & Max(Young Saints Ambassadors
