Dear Parents/Carers,
It has been an exciting two weeks at school as the children have been working collaboratively within their classes to redesign our school dining room. The aim of the project was to design and plan a new dining room space which will be a welcoming and warm environment which is inclusive to all. The children were tasked with using their skills from across the curriculum to create a pitch to present to our judges in a 'Dragons Den Style' competition this week. The children had to use market research, maths budgeting skills, art and design and persuasive writing to try to convince the judges that their ideas were the best. It was fantastic to observe the children present so passionately and articulately to our esteemed judges and it demonstrated what a vast learning experience this was for the children. Year 2 were named our official winners, voted for by the judges for their confidence and detailed presentation.
Thank you for all our judges who gave up their time to support our school community:
Mr Wheatley (CEO of ASCAT)
Mrs Daley (School Governor)
Mr Corrigan (Businessman)
Mr Oliver (Local Estate Agent Owner)
We look forward to working with the children to put their ideas into action, and starting the work needed to redesign our dining room.
Also, this week Mr Wheatley (CEO of ASCAT) spent the whole day at school, working alongside the leadership team to review the schools approach to supporting vulnerable children. Mr Wheatley also spent time with the children, observing in classes and speaking with the children. Mr Wheatley commented on the exemplary behaviour across the school, as well as the inclusive provision in place to support our children.
Last week, the school carried out a planned lockdown practice as part of our ongoing commitment to safeguarding and pupil safety. These practices help ensure that staff and pupils know what to do in the unlikely event of an emergency and allow us to review our procedures to make sure they are as robust as possible. The practice was conducted in a calm and age-appropriate way, and pupils responded extremely well. We would like to thank families for their continued support in helping us keep our school community safe.
This week we welcomed back Mrs Merrell, our Assistant Headteacher, who has returned from maternity leave. We look forward to having Mrs Merrell back as part of our school community.
A possible date for your diaries: Saturday April 25th. Our school is in the ballot for the TCS Mini Marathon in London - we are keeping our fingers crossed that we get a place and that many of the children and families in our school community will be able to join. We will keep you updated with any news from the ballot.
Kind regards,
Mrs Lavelle-Murphy & Mrs Reilly

Last week an email went out to all parents across the school asking them to complete a form indicating the different consents you do / do not give permission to (see link below).
Thank you in advance for those who have already completed the form. If you have not yet done so, please ensure you have completed it by Friday 13th February. We will officially start using these consents after half term, until then, we will be using the previous ones still available on Arbor.
With half term just around the corner, 'Potential Kids' have got plenty happening for neurodivergent children, siblings, teens, and parents.
The regular children’s sessions continue throughout February, with extra activities running during half term. They are also starting monthly teens session (12+), a relaxed, low-demand group with games, crafts, a sensory room, and refreshments for both young people and parents.
From February, the free early years session (under 5s) moves to Wednesday afternoons, and the Connect sessions will be running during half term at The Galleria — free to attend, but booking is required.
They are also running free adult wellbeing sessions every Friday afternoon, offering parents and carers a chance to relax, connect, and enjoy a cuppa.
For more information and to book onto any of the sessions, please see the link below or email info@potentialkids.org

2026 is the National Year of Reading and here at St Bernadette, we will be doing lots of activities this year to promote the pleasure and importance of reading.
Your child has a paper copy of the St Bernadette Reading Bingo Challenge. Throughout the entire year (from January to December), we would like each child to take part in this exciting challenge and complete as many of the reading tasks as possible.
They have a whole year to do them and we will be asking them to bring their sheet into school every once in a while to celebrate how many challenges they have completed.
The aim of the challenge is to make reading fun and purposeful and encourage a love of reading for pleasure. We hope that they all enjoy reading in many different ways!
It was an exciting game for the Tigers today. We hit the ground running after the starting whistle and were 3-0 up at the end of the first quarter.
Killigrew caught their stride though and both teams scored 4 goals each in the second quarter, then they fought even harder with another 4 goals to our 2. We were up by one goal at the end of the third quarter and with one goal from each team in the final quarter, we secured the 10-9 win. This was a game that truly could have gone either way and it was a fierce battle from both sides. Nail biting stuff!
Frankie and Freddie worked tirelessly feeding the ball back and forward and Freddie and Sienna scored some great goals. Olivia and Carolina had their best games yet so coach kudos goes to them today for a stronger more confident performance from both of them. Freddie was awarded a thoroughly deserved MVP.
A really good start to the second half of the season for the Tigers: great team play from Holly, Ryan, Luca, Natalia, Freddie, Sienna, Carolina, Olivia and Frankie.
Go Tigers!!
