Dear Parents/Carers,
Welcome back to the new academic year 2025-2026!
It has been so special to have the children back in school and to welcome some new faces to our St Bernadette family of staff and children. Please continue to make them feel welcome as they settle into St Bernadette life. I have been visiting the classes regularly and the children have settled in well and are already producing some outstanding work. We have spent some time in assembly discussing the school values based on St Bernadette:
Be Kind
Be Independent
Be Respectful
Be Resilient
Be Motivated
The children have thought about some great ways they can put these into action within our school community and beyond. We look forward to supporting the children to develop these even further throughout the year!
Thank you to all those parents who attended the 'Meet the teacher' meetings last week. For those who could not attend, please find the presentations for each class on their Google Classroom pages as well as the School Website. For our new parents in Reception, your 'Meet the teacher' meeting is coming up on Thursday next week. The slides for this will be made available on the School Website under the Reception class page.
The start of the year is a great time to try and encourage new families to join FAB's, our PTA here at St Bernadette, who help to arrange many exciting and fun ways to raise much needed funds for the school. Any time and help you can spare is always very much appreciated and it's a great way to become involved and meet more members of our school community for those of you who are new! Please contact the school office for more information.
Earlier this week, coaches from Tottenham Hotspur Football Club visited our school to deliver football coaching sessions to some classes, during which the children focused on developing their football skills. The coaches who took the sessions commented that the children were 'amazing and they wished all the schools they visited had children as lovely as ours.' Confirming what we already know, that our children here at St Bernadette truly are special!

Please find below information about a SEND event at Welwyn Garden City Central Library:
'On Wednesday 1st October, we are excited to be welcoming guests including Hertfordshire’s SEND local offer, SPACE, and many more local organisations to a free drop-in fair for parents and carers of children with SEND. This will run in the afternoon from 2pm-5pm and will be a great opportunity to connect with local services, for support, information and community. Whether you drop-in before the school run, or come after school with your children, we hope you can join us.
At 5pm we will be hosting author Cathy Reay, to talk about her new book ‘How to be Disabled and Proud (or at least kinda sorta ok with it)’. This is another free event, that you must book your space for either at the desk in the library, or by emailing libraries.information@hertfordshire.gov.uk. Cathy will speak about her experiences as a disabled person but also as a mum to two disabled children. This event is aimed at parents and carers, looking to support and advocate for their children.'

Each Friday lunchtime, Miss Weston leads the Art & Design Technology Club, offering pupils in Years 3-6 the opportunity to explore their creativity and problem-solving skills.
This week, the focus was on engineering principles, as the children used LEGO to construct a range of impressive and imaginative models. It was a fantastic demonstration of their design thinking, collaboration, and innovation.
If you would like to be a part of LEGO club- see Miss Weston!
