Dear Parents/Carers,
We have reached the end of a very busy first half term of 2026. It has been a busy half term full of exciting activities for the children and lots of new learning!
Last week we had the pleasure of watching Year 1's assembly all about keeping a positive mindset. It was lovely to see how confident the children were to perform in front of others and at such a young age. We were very proud of all the hard work they put into sharing their talents with the school.
We held a successful Parent Coffee Morning, where we had positive and productive discussions about homework and the school’s current provision. The feedback shared will be used to help inform decisions about homework for the next academic year, and minutes from the meeting will be added to the school website.
Last week, the school also had a routine safeguarding visit from HFL, during which they spent time with children and staff and visited classrooms across the school. A key highlight from the visit was the positive feedback from pupils, who shared that they feel safe, supported, and well cared for at St Bernadette.
Our school recently celebrated Cultural Day, with children wearing their own clothes and having fun exploring cultures from around the world. They learned about food, music, language, and traditions from countries including Ireland, China, Mexico, Japan, Zimbabwe, France, and the continent of South America. It was lovely to celebrate the children and recognise the increasingly diverse community we are becoming.
Volunteer Parents Needed – Easter Holiday Painting Project 🎨
We’re looking for a small team of volunteer parents to help our caretaker repaint the dining room during the first week of the Easter holidays. If you’re able to spare a few hours (or more!), your support would make a huge difference and help freshen up the space for the children’s return. No professional decorating experience is needed — just enthusiasm and a willingness to help! If you’re available and would like to volunteer, please contact the school office at parents@stbernadette.herts.sch.uk so we can coordinate days and times.
Thank you for your continued support of our school. We wish all our families a safe, restful, and enjoyable half-term break. We would like to wish you all a fun and safe half term and hope that the sun shines. We look forward to welcoming the children back to school on Monday 23rd February 2026 at 8:40am.
Kind regards,
Mrs Lavelle-Murphy & Mrs Reilly
Dear parents and guardians,
We are writing to you to explain all about the no rules day. This day is when children will have a list of rules that they could possibly break. This day is used for raising money for the church to get a crucifix for the entry of it. The price is one pound per rule break. Now, the catch is you can break as many rules as you want, but only the rules that are listed. As an example,if you were to break three rules it would be three pounds . You could also donate money to the school as well to go towards the church.
With our prayers and good wishes
Yours sincerely,
Faith leaders
Anais, Kitty and Jack

The school football team put in a brilliant performance to record their second win of the season against St Peters Primary School. The team had St Peters on the backfoot from the very first minute and put them under huge amounts of pressure. It wasn't long after kick off that Aaron netted the first gooal for St Bernadette to have us 1-0 up.
The team were unlucky not to score on a number of attacks, coming narrowly close to extending their lead and being denied by some brilliant saves from the opposing keeper. The defence was soon to be breached once again as Aaron netted his second goal of the game after being alert in the box to net from close range.
St Bernadette's came under a bit of pressure after this and tried to stand strong against some attacks from St Peters and just before half time the defence was breached to make the score 2-1. This could have sent the game in one of two directions. Thankfully, the team stuck together and responded in brilliant fashion with two more goals in the second half. Aaron netted his third to goal to secure his first ever hat-trick in St Bernadette colours, before Cody scored the pick of the bunch with a long-range strike, leaving the keeper with no chance.
The final score was 4-1 to St Bernadette. Player of the match was awarded to Aaron for an unbelievable game and for scoring a hattrick! Well done to all the players involved. We look forward to our next match after half term!
