Impact

Our well-designed mathematics curriculum has a proven impact on pupil attainment; teaching for mastery enables our pupils to be secure in the fundamentals of mathematics.

In a traditional primary school mathematics lesson, children are put in different groups and given different content based on their anticipated ability. This means that from an early age, children are classed as those who can and can’t “do maths”. At St Bernadette, our teaching maths for mastery approach is different because it offers all pupils access to the full maths curriculum in a robustly designed, sequential way. 

Our inclusive approach, it's emphasis on promoting multiple methods of solving a problem, and our general love of maths, builds self-confidence and resilience in our pupils.
