Dialogue and Encounter
This term the title of our RE topic has been Dialogue and Encounter
For "In him we live and move and have our being" (Acts 17:28).
In this branch, pupils will learn how Christians work together with people of different religious convictions and all people of goodwill towards the common good, respecting the dignity of all humanity. They will also encounter other pathways of belief drawing on the teaching of the Church about intercultural dialogue.

We believe every human person is made in the image and likeness of God. This is a gift that we all share as fellow human beings; we are all infinitely loved by our Creator.
God is present in every human person, regardless of religion, culture, nationality, orientation or economic standing. Each one of us is unique and beautiful. We are called to treat every person and every creature with loving respect.
The Catholic Social Teaching (CST) we have been focusing on this half term is Dignity.
To celebrate this theme. The children have all taken part in CST lessons.
KS1: Learnt being treated with dignity means being treated fairly and with love.
They looked at two bible passages explaining how God loves everyone and wants everyone to be treated with dignity. They were asked the questions 'What does the word ‘neighbour’ mean? Who is our neighbour?
We know that everyone has special gifts given to them by God so everyone is special. The children thought about their gifts and talents and how they could we treat people to show they are special?
LKS2: Treating someone with dignity means treating them with love, kindness and fairness. We should treat everyone this way because God made and loves everyone.
The children in LKS2 answered the questions why should we treat everyone with dignity? What does treating everyone with dignity look like? It is important for the children to know that they are extraordinary just the way they are. They are worthy of love and respect because God created them. It is important, too, for the children to remember that they all have gifts and talents which make them special.
UKS2: Everyone should be treated with dignity because we are made in the image and likeness of God. Years 5 and 6 discussed the question 'What might treating other people with dignity look like?' They looked at a quote from Ephesians 2:10 and thought about how we are ‘created to do good works’? How might this be related to treating others with dignity?
The children thought of the times they have respected the dignity of others.
Ephesians 2:10: "For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do".
Secret Samaritans: The children in Year 2 have competed a secret mission. This half term their mission was to look out for Secret Samaritans throughout the whole school. If they spotted a member of our school community being kind, showing fairness, treating others with respect and dignity, that person was rewarded with a very special secret Samaritan card.

In RE the nursery children learnt about Baptism. The children heard that when we are Baptised we become part of God’s family. Afterwards the children role played Baptising a doll. Nursery also listened to the story of The Good Samaritan, learning the core values of the story, compassion and kindness. Jesus tells us to love our neighbour.
Reception: In Reception, in our CST lesson, we learned about dignity. We talked about how being treated with dignity means being treated fairly and with love. We talked about the things that make us special and remembered that everyone is special in their own way. We drew a picture of ourselves using mirrors and skin colours and then wrote a sentence explaining how we are special. We learned about Eid and then completed different activities, such as Mehndi patterns. We learned about St Peter and listened to the story about his life and how he walked on water. We then retold the story in our own words. We learned about St Paul and how he liked to write letters, we wrote letters to our friend explaining who Jesus was and why he was so special. We listened to the story ‘If Jesus came to visit me’ then thought of questions we would like to ask Jesus. Finally we learned about St Bernadette. We listened to her remarkable story and then drew a picture of when Bernadette saw Mary and wrote about what happened.

This half term, Year 1 started their learning looking at the Catholic Social Teaching value of Dignity. They thought about how God created us all to be special and reflected on why we should all be treated with dignity. As part of their learning about other faiths, they learnt about Islam and how Eid is celebrated, and created their own crescent moon decorations. They learnt about what it means to be Christian and a follower of Jesus Christ, and how a Parish is a Christian community that aims to help those that belong to it. They made links between actions that Christians today do to follow Jesus’ message of love and service.

We started this half term with the CST theme 'Dignity'. We explored how important it is to treat everyone with respect and fairness. Year 2 explored the parable of the Good Samaritan. We thought about what makes someone a Good Samaritan, how are actions can have a big impact on those around us.
We also researched a number of Catholic charities which help people both in the local community and world wide.
To finish off Branch 6, the children learnt all about Judaism. They make links between Jewish laws and how Jewish people live today, with a focus on the Sabbath and a focus on the synagogue. The children created their own Mezuzah box. Inside each box was a scroll with some of the Jewish laws in which the Jewish community follow in everyday life.
The children picked rules which they thought they could also try and follow.

Our topic this half term has been on encountering and discussing aspects of different faiths and making connections with the Christian faith. We have explored how the Jewish festival of Passover commemorates the liberation of the Hebrew people and learned how it is still celebrated today . Year 3 have deepened their understanding of how this festival provides important context in our Christian understanding of The Last Supper as a Passover meal, recognising how Christians understand Jesus as the Paschal Lamb whose death and resurrection brings freedom. We also encountered the faith of Islam, where pupils explore aspects of Muslim belief and practice, such as the Five Pillars, and learned how Muslims live out their faith in daily life.

In year 4 this term we learnt about dialogue and encounter. We learnt the story of St Paul and how he encountered a life changing experience on his way to Damascus. We learnt how anyone who has been touched by the love of Jesus can change their lives and spread hope, love and faith around the world. We also appreciated other religions this term as we learnt about the Muslim religion.

In RE this half term, Year 5 have been studying the Bible. We looked at how the Bible is organised and discovered a lot of new information about the Bible. We discussed the contents of the Bible and where it came from and created top tip guides on how to read the Bible. We then compared how the Bible and the TaNaKh are similar and concluded that the Old Testament books are based on the scrolls of the TaNaKh. We finished our learning from this half term by looking at the Covenant that God made with Abraham and discussed how this was important for both Jewish and Christian faith.
Year 6
Year 6
This half term, Year 6 have promoted 'unity and love' among all people. They have thought about how the church is called to entre dialogue with the world in which it lives and how Christians are responsible for promoting the common good.
The children have also recognised links and made simple connections between Dharmic beliefs, practices and way of life.

Prayer for the Children
As they start nursery or school for the first time - give them joy in new experiences As they move to new classes - give them confidence in growing friendships.
As they move to new schools - give them strength in their growing independence .
As they move on to college or university - give them wisdom in their maturity and for all the teachers, assistants, helpers, carers and volunteers who teach and nurture our children and young people, we ask for your blessing, your joy, your wisdom and your patience as they re-charge their batteries over the summer break, ready for the new term!
