Harvest Food Bank Collection
A huge thank you to all the families who have donated food for the Harvest festival. Y6 bagged all the items up ready for them to be delivered by Mrs Bennett and Miss Thorne to the #foodbank at London Colney Baptist Church! They were overwhelmed with your kindness and donations.
Remembrance
Thank you to our faith leaders for sharing our remembrance book with the parents and carers of the school community. We will keep all these very special people in our prayers.
Supporting our neighbours!
A resident on the road, came to the school to inform us that a parent had reversed and broken their plant pot. Some of our faith leaders wanted to spread some joy, so they made some nice cards to deliver! The school replaced the plant and reminded all our parents to be careful!
Harvest Festival
We invited the parents and the wiser members of our community into school for a special performance of harvest praise. The children enjoyed having the opportunity to meet with the eldest members of our community and served them tea and cake!
Handmade Christmas Cards delivered to our neighbours
Litter Picking
Our Faith leaders and helpers keeping our school environment tidy and looking after God's creation!
Keeping our school environment tidy
Some of our Faith leaders have been working hard to try to keep our cloakroom area tidy!
Buddy Bench
Our faith leaders worked hard to create a buddy bench in both playgrounds, after it was suggested in our parent forum. They painted the benches in bright colours and hope that the children use them if they ever need a buddy.
Performance at the local care home
The school choir and Mr Petifer on a fantastic performance at Fonthill Nursing Home for the elderly members of our community.
Cake Sale
Thank you to our Faith leaders who organised last week's amazing cake sale. The children worked hard to put together a collective worship for the children prior to the sale and then they worked hard to sell the cakes after school on Wednesday.
Our School Vision
We believe that when these 5 core relationships are strong, our children will flourish. In order to try and develop these relationships, we have identified 5 key values for all stakeholders to work towards:
Be Kind
Be Independent
Be Respectful
Be Resilient
Be Motivated
Pastoral Support
SEMH Lead - Mrs Smith
ELSA and Rainbows Bereavement Support
The school employs Mrs.Smith in the position of social and mental health lead. Mrs Smith supports the children regularly with a variety of issues including bereavement, social skills, behaviour and anxiety.
The Hut
The Hut is a private place for the children to come and talk about their concerns etc, and it is not confidential. Learning Mentors keep detailed records of each child’s visit and if anything is a concern / worry to them they notify the Head teacher at once. The children are always encouraged to talk to their parents/ carers about their visit to The Hut.
The Hut has become a success story for St. Bernadette School. Their catch phrase is
“We can always chatter about things that matter” and this has ensured that pupils are confident that there is an adult who will listen to them and that they will have the time to work out strategies to their problems or concerns. Removing barriers to learning is a key focus for the school and this, alongside the SEAL project, enables the pupils and gives them a voice and a way to make positive changes to their immediate life in school and give them strategies that they will take forward and use for the rest of their life.
Worry Box
Each class has its very own worry box so that the children can let an adult know if they have a worry to share. This method enables all children to access support, regardless of how confident they may be able to share concerns verbally.
Women's Refuge Collection - Mrs Smith
Every year, Mrs. Smith organises a staff collection for the women's refuge at Christmas time. It was an initiative by the staff and completed by the staff and is a great example of staff living out our Catholic ethos.

Our School Environment
RSHE Curriculum - Life to the full
At St Bernadette school our Mission Statement commits us to foster the Gospel values of Jesus Christ and provide a high standard of education with equality of opportunity for all. Furthermore, our school aims state that we will endeavour to raise pupils’ self-esteem, help them to grow spiritually, intellectually, emotionally and physically, recognise the value of everyone in our community and develop caring and sensitive attitudes. It is in this context that we commit ourselves: In partnership with parents, to provide children and young people with a “positive and prudent sexual education” which is compatible with their physical, cognitive, psychological, and spiritual maturity, and rooted in a Catholic vision of education and the human person
