Dear Families,

It’s hard to believe May is here! We are wrapping up an amazing year in kindergarten and getting ready for the exciting transition to first grade. This month, we will be reviewing important skills and building confidence in all that we have learned.

📚 Literacy
In literacy, we are focusing on reading for fluency and reading for understanding. Students are practicing reading smoothly, clearly, and with expression, while also talking about what they read. We will continue working on CVC words (short vowel words like cat, bed) and CVCe words (long vowel words like cake, bike). We are learning to recognize and understand the difference between short and long vowel sounds.

✏️ Writing
Students are strengthening their writing skills by writing simple sentences, sounding out words, and using what they know about letters and sounds. We are encouraging students to write clearly and share their ideas with confidence.

🔢 Math
In math, we are building fluency with numbers to 100. Students are practicing counting, reading, and writing numbers, as well as recognizing number patterns. We are also learning about 3D shapes, exploring how they look and where we see them in the real world.

🌱 Science
Our science focus is on life cycles of plants and animals. Students will learn how living things grow and change over time, and we will explore the signs of spring all around us.

🌟 Looking Ahead
Throughout the month, we will be reviewing key skills and helping students feel confident and prepared for first grade. We are so proud of how much they have grown this year!
