Dear Parents and Guardians,
Young children make incredible progress during each school year. This summer, we encourage you to continue to read with your child, not only to prevent the “summer slide,” but also to foster a lifelong love of reading. Research has shown that children learn to read by reading, and the more children read the better readers they become. For summer reading, students should read Third Grade Angels by Jerry Spinelli, and Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summary by Meg McDonald. Students will need to complete summaries for each book they read. These summaries will need to be 3-4 sentences. The graphic organizer for the summers are attached. There is also a fun reading bingo that students can complete. Enjoy your time together this summer and take advantage of the opportunities that summer provides to relax, explore, and refresh your spirits. Attached is also the list of supplies students will need for next year. I look forward to learning with each of you in September. Feel free to reach out with any questions!
Sincerely,
Miss Januse
