I want to wish your family a blessed Easter. I know that this year we will not celebrate the way we have in the past. While we may not be sitting in the pews at Church or at our dining room tables with extended families, I hope you feel God's love shining down upon you. My kids and I will be watching mass online and saying the rosary in our front room. (the kids will most likely still be in their pajamas :)) They will look for their Easter baskets and go on an Easter egg hunt in our house and I pray they will be grateful for the gift of family.

This week take a breath and know that the hustle and bustle of school is on a break. If you are looking for some activities, check out our specials teachers web pages.

I plan on spending the week with my kids. We were supposed to go to New York over break, but we can't, so we are going to bring NYC to them. There may or may not be a surprise appearance from Lady Liberty (me dressed as the Statute of Liberty), Homemade pizza slices, a NYC Lego skyline kit (thank you Amazon), some street vendor pretzels (I'll pass them to the kids through MaryBeth's bedroom window),and some take out dinner from somewhere in the neighborhood (because we always go to one nice dinner while on vacation). I have watched the Facebook and Instagram feeds of people who have been keeping their kids busy with cool activities since the start of the school closing. I have NOT been one of those people. My kids have been swamped with homework and I have watched them stress out over assignments they did not understand. They have been anxious because they miss school and their friends. I tried to keep them happy with snuggles and some time outside. So now they have a little time to destress and take a break. So we will try and do one "cool" thing a day. We will probably watch more movies than we should; but we will be together. We will say our prayers as a family, eat junk food, squeeze in some board game time, and they will play hours of video games. As parents we are all trying our best, and you should all be proud of the job you are doing to keep your children happy and loved. Happy Easter.

Week of April 6th: E learning week #4

Good morning and Happy Monday. I loved being able to see your faces on Friday:) even over a computer screen you make me smile. I will be setting up more Zoom meetings in the future. This week is a special week in our Faith; it is Holy Week, the week leading up to Easter Sunday. Normally families would spend the week going to prayer services to celebrate the Last Supper, attending the Stations of the Cross, and making sure to go to confession before Easter. While we are not able to do this onsite at churches, I encourage you to celebrate at home!

While we will not go into detail the events of that day with the children, we will pay tribute by sharing a message of hope and love. This week we will be learning about the letter B, I have been testing out some bubble recipes, I am hoping to find the right one that will allow us to make enormous bubbles. Fingers crossed we are successful in our additional supplemental activity.

I have to say that I have been impressed with the children. These can be long days for three and four year olds, but they continue to work hard on our classroom procedures. Each day we become closer as a class by working together and realizing that together we are better!

Preschool Save-The-Dates

We made it through the first week of school!!

I hope you all enjoyed the long holiday weekend! We are looking forward to another exciting week of school with our new Preschool class!

Though it’s always so nice to have that extra day off for Labor Day, it makes it more difficult for some of us to separate from our grown-ups come Tuesday morning! If you know your child is having a difficult day, please let one of the teachers know. Thanks so much with your help on this! It really does get better each day! The school days will seem a lot longer this week because your little ones will be here until 3:00. Don't worry if the children seem exhausted, starting a new routine always has its ups and downs. I know it can seem overwhelming to leave a crying child, but rest assured we will take exceptional care of them.

Last week the children began working at centers (these are the tables you see set up at drop off). I am thrilled to see how well they worked together and took turns. This week the children will have additional time for play using busy boxes. These are clear plastic bins filled with games/toys/objects that will used to build, imagine, and create with. I cannot wait to see what magical and creative things that come from their wonderful minds.

We have some great lessons planned this week:

Language Arts: Introduce the Letter Aa and words that begin with a. Name things that begin with A. Reread the story “The Teacher with the Alligator Purse”.

Little Bears: Make a capital A alligator.

Big Bears: Complete a worksheet: color the apple and find all of the capital A’s.

Math:

Alike and different: Discover likenesses and differences. Identify how objects are alike and how they are different. Have children come up and discuss how they are alike/different based on their clothing, their hair color, color of eyes, etc. Listen to the story Same, Same, but Different by Jenny-Sue Kostacki about two students from different parts of the world.

Little Bears: Work in small groups to separate some toys from the kitchen area according to likeness and differences such as, things we can eat and things we cannot eat. Look at cards from a deck and tell how they are alike, and how they are different.

Big Bears: In a row of pictures, color the objects that are alike. Try to color them the same to make them look alike.

Religion:

Little Bears: Chapter 1: I Can Hear: God calls each of us to hear His message of being kind and that we are all special in His eyes. Students will cut out a heart with their name on it and the phrase I am Special. God gave us ears so we may hear. Read scripture Matthew 17:5 “This is my Beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; Listen to Him” Discuss things we like to hear and a list of things we hear right now. Complete a worksheet by coloring things that we can hear.

Big Bears: Bible Story New Testament 1: God’s Colorful World. Listen to the story of creation and learn that God created everything.

*Please note that Religion work for Big bears will not come home on a weekly basis. The work is collected each week and saved at school to be sent home as a complete Bible at the end of the year.

Social Studies and Science: Hello School! Your child will bring home a paper leaflet from Scholastic titled “My Big World with Clifford” each week.

You can go online to www.letsfindout.scholastic.com to do the online activities at home with your child. There are videos to watch and online games to play. This week’s lesson focuses on ways to greet new friends such as saying hello, waving, smiling, shaking hands or giving a high five. We will also talk about and identify things we might find in our classroom.

Some reminders/ important dates…

  • There is No school on Monday, September 2nd in honor of Labor Day
  • Back to School Night, Thursday, September 5th, 7p.m.
  • Please send (2) small snacks for full-day children, (1) small snack for ½ day children each day. Please put snacks in a separate container, as this will make it easier for the children. Remember to be mindful of our no nuts allowed policy. Please write your child’s name on each snack with permanent marker. It would be extremely helpful to have the snacks in a separate container from their lunch box. This week the children will place their lunch boxes in a bin separate from their cubby. If the snacks are in a separate container, we can avoid whole the confusion of digging through all of the lunch boxes to look for a snack, as well as lunch food being consumed during snack time. :)
  • Send (1) small individual picture of your child for their cubby
  • Send in any forms from the Orientation Day
  • Send a folder in your child’s backpack each day
  • If your daughter wears a dress to school, please have her wear shorts underneath.
  • Full-day students please bring a lunch each day. The Hot Lunch program is not available to Preschool students.
  • If you are available to do lunch duty from 11:00am until 11:30 any day(s) during the school year, please send us an email. We would greatly appreciate any volunteers.
