Youth Program

A Career Exploration Program for

Maui County High School Students

A FREE, one-week intensive program full of excursions and reflections

Students will get behind-the-scenes tours and meet various experts and leaders, exploring varying career paths and economic industries in Maui County.

Stay Maui Nui is a collaborative youth program between the

Ka Ipu Kukui Fellows and The Maui Family YMCA.

Ages

From 9th Grade up to 1 year out of High School

Objective

Encourage and inspire participants to find a career path enabling them to work and live in Maui County post-high school, by exposing and introducing participants to the varying sectors, elements, and economic networks in Maui County.

Application Required

Space is limited, and completing the program application is required.

WHAT IS STAY MAUI NUI?

Phase 1 - Week Long Youth Program - (See Schedule Page)

Cohort size is between 8 to 10 participants for Maui cohorts; and 5 to 6 for Molokai and Lanai cohorts.
Maui participants will begin and end each day at the Maui Family YMCA. Molokai and Lanai locations are to be determined.
Participants will be transported by bus or van throughout the day to varying locations that relate to career opportunities in Maui County or Hawaii. Applicant/participant interests are taken into consideration in the topics chosen to be explored.
The week ends with a group presentation to parents and supporters, sharing participant experience and reflection.

Phase 2 - Long Term Mentoring (See Extended Program Page)

After completing the week-long program, participants will have the opportunity to gain a mentor for further career development and/or enter into available internships.
Students will have opportunities to be peer mentors to new cohorts and participate in alumni events such as volunteer projects, extra-excursions, and cohort reunions.
