Personal Responsibility Education Program
In Staunton City Schools, we believe that a comprehensive Family Life Education (FLE) is essential for the holistic development of our students. We are committed to supporting our students and their families through open communication, valuable resources, and a curriculum that promotes lifelong healthy habits and responsible citizenship.
PREP, our FLE program, is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills they need to make informed decisions about their health, relationships, and well-being. The PREP curriculum is based on the Virginia Standards of Learning and is taught by the Office on Youth.

Parents and guardians have the right to review the family life education program, including written and audio visual educational materials used in the PREP program. Parents and guardians also have the right to excuse their child from all or part of family life education instruction. Please see the information below related to Participation in the PREP program.
Participation in PREP
Any parent who does not want their child to participate in any part of, or in the entire PREP program, may access and complete an opt-out form available below.
An opt-out form must be completed annually for non-participating students prior to their school's PREP week. Students in elementary and middle school PREP classes are separated by gender. However, at the middle school level a gender-neutral section of Family Life is available. If you would like your student to participate in this section, click here (Click here para la versión en español).
Parents/guardians are requested to complete these forms as soon as possible in order that alternative instruction can be planned for the child. Please feel free to call your School Principal with any questions.
