Class News

Religion

The Personal Mission Statement that the students started last week is not finished yet. They'll get the opportunity to work on them this week.

Students are still studying The Beatitudes. Throughout the week we'll have different activities to learn about them and know what kind of things they can do as a 4th grader to live out the Beatitudes.

ELA

The students started Literature Circles. They seem to be enjoying it. In Literature Circles, they have assigned pages to read and a job to complete by a set date. Then groups will meet to discuss the story and share their jobs. Not only does this strengthen their reading skills, but it strengthens their listening and social skills too. The book the groups are reading is Dear Mr. Henshaw by Beverly Clearly.

Math

After completing their first Math Review, the test will be on Wednesday, 9/30. Practicing problems that are similiar to the review will help students to be prepared for the test. Also, we will draw and study the characteristics of triangles, circles, lines, segments, rays, rectangles, and squares.

Social Studies

Students will use the song This Land is Your Land and America the Beautiful to categorizze various physical characteristics of the United States. They will locate physical features (land and water) of the US and then label them on a map.

Science

Students are currently studying energy. We will use Mystery Science to investigate different forms of energy. Students will use evidence to study the relation of the speed of an object to the energy of the object. They will use simple activities to understand what potential and kinetic energy is.
