Here we are building our Daily 5 reading stamina and learning various independent reading strategies.....

This is our "Discussion Group" time where we've learned to listen to the directions of the group leader, listen politely and wait for our turn to speak on a topic...

 How can we forget the fun we have reading and acting out Bible stories?  Then there are the crafts that go with them!

Thanks so much to our fearless parent volunteers who help out each week, center-time is always a hit! 

The month of October  is when kindegarten kiddoes start to write.  Sometimes our grade 8 buddies help with this do this like in the pictures below.  After tasting and writing this group of K kids invited their buddies to partake in a similar  taste test to see if their opinions matched or not.   They  had a BLAST talking, writing and even finishing off with a Halloween craft based on their first opinion piece! Take a look....

 Each year we  study  the Statue of Liberty in social studies.  We read books, take  a virtual tour, make crowns with seven points and even conduct a science experiment that answers our query about why the statue is green....

November is not to be outdone by October....

Here we are learning a Native American lullaby to enhance our study of the First Thanksgiving.

With the help of our 8th grade buddies kindergarten kids are able to create stuffed turkeys to go along with a writing piece based on the book, "Turkey Trouble" which depicts a turkey who tries various disguises to avoid being eaten.   The kids have a  blast together! 

Look at these guys taking on the Daily 5 reading skill of "reading to someone"!  They  are learning  specific guildlines to make this reading experience both meaningful  and productive. We use this skill A LOT  all year as more letter sounds, word families and sight words come our way! 

Whether it is acting out the Bible story, celebrating birthday, practicing sight words or creating something together......we do it all together!
