Summer work for incoming second graders:
The most important part of summer reading is just that, read! Make a habit of reading every day. Students are encouraged to read for 15 – 20 minutes daily. If you need to use the log to keep track, or would like a challenge, use the reading log to record what you have read. This is not a requirement, but a suggestion.
~ Students will complete two book reports, one nonfiction and one fiction. There is no 'set' book; students are encouraged to pick a book that they will enjoy reading and complete the attached book report. Once you have done the writing, you may draw a picture to go along with your report.
Here are some suggested books:
Children’s Bible
Step into Reading
National Geographic Kids (non-fiction collection)
The Magic Tree House by: Mary Pope Osbourne
Geronimo Stilton
Henry and Mudge
Magic School Bus
Who Was?
Amelia Bedelia
~ Students should practice their math facts daily. Addition and subtraction cards are available at any dollar store or stores like Walmart, Target, etc.
~ Summer "bridge books" are also a good option for summer work. This is not an assignment that will be checked.
