This article will describe the different compliance audits that we conduct to better assist our licensees in complying with the regulations. Conducting audits is one of the Division’s ways of being proactive about ensuring compliance with the state laws that govern the licensed practice of real estate.
The Division of Real Estate license renewal and reinstatement period continues through January 31, 2021 for:
Real Estate Brokers
Real Estate Appraisers
Appraisal Management Companies
Mortgage loan originators' license renewal expired on December 31, 2021.
Expired licensees may not conduct any business that requires licensure. If your license is on an inactive status, you must still renew your license if you wish to maintain the inactive status and avoid reinstatement fees.
As a reminder many E&O insurance policies expire on January 1, 2022. Please be sure to check your policy’s expiration date and renew your policy before it expires. A failure to renew your insurance policy could result in license inactivation and/or loss of prior acts coverage.
On October 5, 2021, the Colorado Real Estate Commission held a rule-making hearing and adopted some new rules, which were effective on November 30, 2021. These changes related to the rules governing real estate brokers, as well as the rules governing subdivision and timeshares.
Additionally, On November 4, 2021, the Colorado Board of Real Estate Appraisers held a rule-making hearing and adopted some new rules, which were effective on January 1, 2022. These changes related to the rules pertaining to distance education, the adoption of the updated real property appraiser qualification criteria, an update to an experience requirement, and continuing education updates.
The Division of real estate has created a new consumer protection and resource section on their website dedicated to providing OnDemand resources for consumers. The new consumer resource center is a collection of web resources dedicated to providing guidance to Colorado consumers who are searching for guidance on:
how to file a complaint,
the real estate transaction process,
working with licensed real estate professionals, and
learning what it means to purchase and live in a HOA.
The new section also provides a general landing spot for all consumer resources, consumer opportunities, Division contact information, along with ways to spot real estate scams.
The Colorado 2022 Real Estate Manual is now available. The manual has been updated and contains the program’s statutes, rules, position statements, case law, and real estate related substantive sections.
The 2022 new and Updated Commission contacts and forms available for you use now on the Division's website. Additionally, you can find the redlined versions of the updated contracts and forms for educational purpose.
The 2022 Annual Commission Update course is available for real estate brokers. This 4-hour mandatory course is necessary in order to maintain your license status.
It can be taken during the 2022 calendar year, however, it is recommended that you take it as early in the year as possible, since it covers important brokerage compliance and general practice issues, as well as rule, contract, and legislative changes. The course is approved to be taken only through authorized providers, which you can find on the Division’s website.
The Division of Real Estate has developed a guidance page for brokers where they can find consumer protection resources designed to provide direction and guidance on common elements of buying a home in Colorado, including social media assets.

Our Approved Real Estate Appraisers’ education courses list has been upgraded to aid appraisers in their search for qualifying or continuing education.
To be eligible for CE credit, you must:
Register and log into the class in your full name as it reads on your license
Have an active video feed through the course
Have your face in full camera view as an active participant throughout the duration of the course
Active participation essentially means no multitasking. Just as it would be if attending an in-person class, students are not permitted to drive, talk on the phone, run errands, etc., during class. Failure to comply with the rules may result in the denial of CE credit.
