On Oct. 23, 2024, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released a memo on the updated Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP’s) recommendation for people 65 years and older and those who are moderately or severely immunocompromised to receive a second dose of the 2024-2025 COVID-19 vaccine six months after their first dose. The CDC stated that these updated recommendations also allow for flexibility for additional doses (i.e., three or more) for those who are moderately or severely immunocompromised, in consultation with their healthcare provider.
The CDC’s Staying Up to Date with COVID-19 Vaccines webpage has not yet been updated with this new recommendation. However, the page contains the following message: “On October 23, 2024, CDC updated COVID-19 vaccine recommendations for people 65 years and older and for people who are moderately or severely immunocompromised. This page will be updated soon to align with the new recommendations. Read the media statement.”
