I want to share just a little information regarding the coming implementation of OASIS-E. Many of you know, OASIS-E was set to start prior to the Public Health Emergency, and then it was put off indefinitely. It was officially stated that OASIS-E will begin on January 1, 2023 and OASIS-E data set to be released in February 2022.
There will be significant changes, making education and training of the information a priority. Multiple items are being removed, as well as added from the OASIS-D1 dataset. There are going to be A items, B items, C items, when for many years, we only had M items or MO items. We had GG items and J items added over the last couple of years, but now there will be multiple letters on OASIS-E.
Some key things that will be changing: adding questions on ethnicity, race, language, transportation, as well as adding questions regarding hearing and vision. The M item regarding pain in activity or movement will be removed and replaced with J items that are specific to pain in different situations.
There is not a firm date when the OASIS E guidance will be released, but hoping it will be no later than mid-year. I encourage you to be on the lookout and once released, begin making plans for your staff to receive the education needed. I would recommend not waiting until the year.

Review your April 2022 refresh Provider Preview reports that CMS sent in the Internet Quality Improvement and Evaluation System (iQIES) on February 23. A system issue may affect the values for services provided, so carefully review these values.
If they’re incorrect, ask your State Automation or State Outcome and Assessment Information Set (OASIS) Education Coordinator to update your data in iQIES. For other questions, contact the iQIES Help Desk at 800-339-9313 or iQIES@cms.hhs.gov.
