The Denver Museum of Nature & Science (DMNS) envisions an empowered community that loves, understands, and protects our natural world. In 2020, the Museum celebrated its 120th birthday. DMNS is a renowned museum that continues to offer millions of guests programs and experiences that inspire a passion for exploring and understanding our natural and cultural world. Responsible Energy & Greenhouse Gas Reduction

    • Renewable energy source - solar production.

    • Use a unique integration of heat pump technology and recycled water to reduce energy consumption by up to 60 %.

    • Automated louvers move based on the angle of the sun to save energy.

    • High-efficiency LED and lighting, Energy Star appliances, and occupancy sensors that turn lights off when areas aren’t in use.

Waste Minimization & Diversion

    • Eliminated single-use plastic

    • Diverted more than 105 tons of materials from landfills.

    • Replaced plastic beverage bottles.

    • Infinitely recyclable aluminum cans and compostable cups made of 100 percent plant-based materials are available for beverages.

    • Composts all eating utensils, straws, napkins, plates, condiment cups, salad containers, and food waste.

Water Conservation & Quality

    • Use native plants to save water, with non-potable water used for irrigation.

    • Installed low flow fixtures and urinals and a Ground Source Heat Pump.

Corporate Social Responsibility

    • 11,845 – Number of accumulated days staff used alternative transportation to get to work

    • Partnership with Ball Corp - an in-kind donation of 200,000 infinitely recyclable aluminum bottles of water for museum.

    • Launched public side composting in 2018.

    • The Morgridge Family Exploration Center received LEED Platinum certification by the U.S. Green Building Council.

    • Hosted State Environmental Leadership Program information and recruiting session.
