Responsible Energy & Greenhouse Gas Reduction

    • The Department Parks & Recreation (DPR) implemented electric golf carts to eliminate maintenance needs and improve air quality which protects our assets.

    • DPR purchased all new diesel equipment that meets standards for Tier 4 emissions to improve air quality.

    • Department of Public Health & Environment's (DDPPHE) reduced travel emissions through their soil reuse program.

Waste Minimization & Diversion

    • Arts & Venues diverted over 50% of waste from the landfill.

    • The Denver Fire Department has incorporated the city's composting program at most of its locations and plans to have 100% by the end of 2021.

    • Denver generates hazardous, electronic, and other regulated wastes at our facilities, including our fleet maintenance operations, our office buildings, and our recreation centers. Through time, our generation of these wastes has dropped by 24 percent due to recycling, change of business processes, and the use of different products and materials.

    • Continued to provide recycling and composting services to Denver Public Schools (DPS).

Water Conservation & Quality

    • DPR’s Carla Madison Recreation Center saves over 40% of indoor water use.

    • DPR’s Carla Madison Recreation Center smart irrigation system uses 100% recycled water.

    • DPR conserves water with central control with flow sensing, an estimated water savings of over 14 million gallons of potable water in an average year.

    • Over the last 15 years, the city has cleaned up 60 leaking underground storage tank sites.

Corporate Social Responsibility

    • Provide e-waste recycling coupons to Denver residents.

    • Denver Partners Against Graffiti and Keep Denver Beautiful aided the community with litter/graffiti removal/beautification projects throughout the city.

    • Partnered with The Greenway Foundation to present on trash in urban waterways at the Colorado Conservation Board’s “TAP-IN” event.

    • Donated furniture, carpet and various supplies to R.A.F.T (Resource Area for Teachers), held clothing drive, held food drive.

    • Denver is the only city nationally to have an independently certified Environmental Management System

    • Held 35 weekly food access and donation, and other public health events serving 410,000 families
