In 1893, with 2.5 miles of wooden pipeline, a few water mains and one reservoir, Castle Rock Water began its first service to just a few hundred people. Thus, began the town’s commitment to delivering residents this vital and important natural resource. Over a century later, Castle Rock Water is an industry leader, providing state-of the-art water, wastewater and stormwater services to a growing town of more than 75,000 residents. Castle Rock Water’s vision is to provide the community with exceptional service that protects public health and balances social, environmental and fiscal responsibilities in a sustainable manner.
Responsible Energy & Greenhouse Gas Reduction
Attained a 1.24% reduction in energy usage per gallons pumped from 2019 tp 2020.

Waste Minimization & Diversion
Reduced landfill waste with internal office program recycling.
Continued proper recycling of metal, including obsolete meters and equipment.
Collected more than 141,200 pounds of hazardous chemicals and trash at various clean up events.
Water Conservation & Quality
Maintained conservation trend in reaching the goal of 100 gallons per capita daily by 2050 and saw a 1.5% decrease in total water demand.
Provided rebates for the removal of more than 76,000 square feet of high-water using turf reducing water usage in residential and non-residential landscapes.
Assisted with irrigation efficiency measures and installation of artificial turf for top customer, Castle Rock Parks.
Extended water schedule season and included non-residential customers.
Restricted Kentucky bluegrass on any residential new construction (non-residential already in place).
Attained 22.9 percent renewable water, with the goal of 75 percent by 2050. The 7% decrease from 2019 was due to the Plum Creek Water Purification Facility (PCWPF) being offline for emergency maintenance and for the construction of the advanced treatment processes. With this project now complete, Castle Rock is expecting the renewable water usage rate to increase significantly.
