Responsible Energy & Greenhouse Gas Reduction

• • Black Hills Energy has 281.5 megawatts (MW) of wind energy capacity and 12.5 MW of solar energy delivered through our on-site, private solar programs and community solar gardens. Of the wind and solar energy capacity that Black Hills Energy has, our Colorado operations provide 149 MW of the wind energy capacity and all the 12.5 MW of solar energy capacity.

  • Black Hills Energy has an additional 40 MW of distributed solar energy capacity.

  • Since 2011, we have saved nearly 197 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of energy through demand-side management (DSM)/energy efficiency programs.

  • 272 Trees were provided to customers free of charge as part of the Energy Saving Trees giveaway.

Water Conservation and Quality

• • Black Hills Energy was the first to use air cooled condensing technology in the United States with our electric generating fleet which saves billions of gallons of water per year which is a necessity in the arid west.

Corporate Social Responsibility

• • We match customer and employee contributions to Black Hills Cares dollar-for-dollar. Local assistance agencies then distribute those funds to qualified customers.

  • Our assistance programs provide bill-payment assistance for income-qualified electric and natural gas customers.

  • We offer our residential and commercial customers a wide variety of programs and rebates to help them conserve energy and lower their energy costs.
